As an aside the way tanking finally clicked for me was actually when I was leveling Monk back when every GCD was a positional, and tanks wouldn't stop TURNING THE BOSS EVERYWHERE AND RUINING MY SHIT, and now when I tank I keep bosses as stationary as I possibly can out of Spite

I knew Ditko did work for Marvel, DC, Charlton, and Warren, but I never realized he illustrated several issues of Archie Comics' Red Circle revival of The Fly in the 1980s. The man did so much incredible work and I'm still learning about it.
The Fly #3 Red Circle, 1983. "Who Is the Monster?" Page 9. Pencils by Steve Ditko Inks by Bill Draut according to IDW's "Ditko Unleashed" but GCD has a *lot* more info about the inking job on this story: "Nick Caputo has examined the pages and suspects the inking is as follows: Bill Draut: all of page 1; page 4; panels 2-5 (partial inking); page 5 (some inking by Ditko and possible alteration of Troy by Buckler in panel 5); pgs 6-7; page 8, panels 1-3 (Troy figure); page 9, panel 2; page 10, panel 2 (foreground figure). Buckler may have inked the Fly's face on page 2 and background figures on page 3. In addition, a background inker worked on page 2. His name is on a building but undecipherable. Introducing G-Woman, with the power to go soft -- or hard!!
NEW ADVENTURE COMICS No. 22 Right and below right: Interiors, "G-Woman"; script and art, unknown. December 1937. Not to be confused with Hope Hazard, just plain "G-Woman" was June Justis, a federal investigator whose adventures were even more moribund than Hazard's. By now it was becoming clear that the two-and three-page serialized format, inspired by newspaper strips, was vitiating the stories' suspense, especially when months elapsed between installments. [Taschen lists the writer and artist as unknown while GCD hazards a guess of Tom Cooper on art.] But when she sees a farmer, G-Woman *always* goes hard! (She fucking hates farmers.)

Don Drake debuted in New Fun #1 — here's the first installment as reprinted in the facsimile edition. Checking GCD it looks like most of the other issues of New Fun (and the successor series More Fun & More Fun Comics) have never been reprinted. Guess it's time to search for online scans.

I've heard of foil covers, sure, but internal foil *pages* were new to me.
Two-page spread for DC's Golden Age with the pages printed using a metallic-looking golden foil finish. The image is of Superman breaking a set of Kryptonite chains from the cover to Superman #233 (1971), which, while iconic, has never really been considered an indicator of the start of the Bronze Age of comics as far as I know. From Taschen's 75 Years of DC Comics. Two-page spread for DC's Modern Age with the pages printed using a messy-looking holographic (?) foil finish. Image is of Sinestro and Hal Jordan both inserting their fists into different openings of the same power battery from the cover to Green Lantern #21 (2007), hardly an iconic or even memorable cover.* I find it fitting that the other comic eras were indicated by simple, iconic images using a single, iconic color while the Modern Age is represented by an awkward image rendered in garish, overly busy modern computer coloring and then layered with a foil effect that doesn't photograph well. * Even better, after checking GCD I found that this isn't even the main cover for that issue — it's a variant cover, which really is the perfect choice for the "Modern" Age of comics. AST solo for 7/21! I missed the 41-50 speedrun by 1 gcd which was just heartbreaking. Definitely easier than EO, but I did feel time pressured between 61-90 still.

Why I like and keep working on Rust
Thank you for the kind words and the thoughtful response. I'm deeply sympathetic to your viewpoint, and some days I certainly feel like Rust is creaking under its own weight. Why does your typical backend web service need all this complexity with borrows and lifetimes and manual memory management? But allow me to present the other side of the argument. My background is in systems-level developer tools, and Rust has a combination of things that no other programming environment has: * & and &mut, which enforce a rigorous separation between mutable and immutable state. I think this is the single most important feature of Rust, and the closest analog to this in other environments is purely functional languages like Haskell * enums with data + exhaustive pattern matching; the latter is something even Haskell lacks * high-level idiomatic code that performs like low-level code (e.g. iterators): Rust achieves this through an extraordinary combination of monomorphizing and inlining * working in memory-constrained environments: tracing GC tends to have significant memory overhead, and I've worked in server environments where a big limiting factor was the amount of DRAM being produced globally * good polymorphism: I think OOP is a suboptimal paradigm that breaks under day-to-day development stress. I've written about it at https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=42512629 * fast startup times: this is a requirement for command-line tools people use hundreds of times a day—I spent many years working on Mercurial where Python's slow startup time was a very common complaint * first-class support for using native OS calls directly; many higher-level languages like Java abstract away the details, so things like signal handling are hard to hook into * first-class Windows support: again, non-negotiable for many developer tools, since the plurality of developers are on Windows (cont) * and last but not least, a great dependency ecosystem, which ties into all of the above points: & and &mut mean that some transitive dependency three levels down won't suddenly alter the list you pass in, idiomatic performance means that perf regressions are rare, first-class Windows support means most dependencies just work on Windows, and so on Is it possible to have an application-level/GCd/managed language that meets most or all of these requirements? Certainly. Does such an application-level language exist today? No, and there's nothing on the horizon either (Haskell has its heart in the right place, but is missing many of the more practical features here). Rust isn't a great application-level language, but it's the best application-level language. And given how high the barrier tends to be for a new language to reach adoption, I'll probably be retired long before something like that shows up. And yeah, async really is quite confusing in so many ways, and it's really unfortunate that this situation has seen no improvements in so many years. And yet, through its characteristics combined with the other things listed here, it enables developers to solve real problems that are completely infeasible in any other language. So I keep trying to make Rust better :)

My contribution to arxiv.org/abs/2510.10967 is a space-efficient strategy for modular division under superposition. It's based on recording the branches taken during a GCD, to decompose a number+modulus into their "dialog representation", which unlike binary is entirely linear.

I had never heard of 1940s Marvel comic WACKY DUCK before today but now I demand they uncancel the Masterworks line so we can have a collection. That cover to #4 below is amazing! Sadly no record of who drew these on the GCD.

・GCDをとめることが基本敵の離脱以外何があっても許されない
・PTとか処理によってはえげつない移動量だったり、移動先になったり…
・軽減がメレーの牽制よりはるかに重い

メレーも当然理想の回しはあるけど、どうしても敵から離れる必要があったりで、理想の回しから変える必要があるから、その損失するところがベースになるんだけど、そこの損失分をどう埋めるかで差がつくので、そこでうまくやる＝加点的に感じている_(:3」∠)_
