Decided to get in early with the New Year’s resolution:
2026 will be the year I get my mountain biking mojo back. Last time I probably road was August 2024, it’s been road, circuit, gravel & CX only recently.
Hold my drop bars, I’m going in.

After a 2 year break, I finally got back into regular weekly trips to my local trail centre, Glentress Forest, with the mountain and gravel bike. The weather here in Scotland doesn’t always entice you outdoors on your bike, but once you’re out it’s not so bad and the landscapes are awesome!

Delighted the Glentress 7 has risen again the bicycling phoenix from the ashes, this race is the best 7 hours of the year no matter what the weathers doing.
Entries opened yesterday, if you’re in Scotland in late September, ride this race, it’s awesome.

The 2023 MTB Marathon World Championships were held in muddy conditions in Glentress Forest, Scotland. 21yr old Mona Mitterwallner (Austria) finished 54sec ahead of Candice Lill (South Africa); 34yr old veteran Henrique Avancini (Brazil) won by 28sec over Martin Stosek (Czech Republic). Took train south. It broke down. An hour later than planned started ride back home. Nice all day except over the highest hill, in the dark, a storm hit and I had to push. Good training for Strathpuffer! Rode some of the lower trails at Glentress on the way. Had a great pub lunch! #cycling #scotland

Clouted my watch on the dishwasher. “It looks like you’ve taken a fall. I’m calling an ambulance.” NO? What? No!
Earlier in the year, flying off a berm at Glentress and landing hard in a pile of nettles, my watch said: “Ooh look, there’s a reminder about this event on a colleague’s calendar.” 🤦♂️

Yeah, first noticed BAC wheels in 2023 at the XC World Championships on the Ghost Bikes factory racing team bikes. Didn’t fancy the wheels then but jeez they’ve grown on me.

Having ridden a hired E-MTB round Glentress this summer I would definitely recommend one. I can't justify the outlay to buy outright but allowed me to enjoy a day out with my lad that would have been miserable if I'd been unassisted.
