there's an opera based off of the book Civil Rights Unionism that's going to be performed in the Triangle sometime this spring, and a class at NC A&T is working on adapting the recent book about the Greensboro massacre and its aftermath (Morningside) into a stage play.
The fight always needs to be a little bit silly. The BPP paper had comic strips. The IWW had goofy songs. We play unionbuster bingo when our bosses are on tv.
We keep talking about how demoralized we all are and for sure collective organizing would help. But a comedy set like this could also do a lot of meaningful work. I feel so much better after laughing at The Harper’s Letter with people who get its absurdity and I think the rest of us would too.

Younger people and families began moving away from rural areas to Charlotte, Raleigh, Greensboro, Durham and their suburbs to take jobs there. They mostly stayed and didn't come back.

Greensboro Sparks a Movement

On today’s Labor Radio Podcast Daily: how the Greensboro sit-ins helped ignite the modern Civil Rights Movement and reshaped American politics. In labor history, the 1919 Seattle General Strike ends. Quote of the day: William “Big Bill” Haywood. @PodcastGreenRed @wpfw

NC senator’s Bad Bunny Super Bowl post goes viral, crosses party lines. Michael Garrett, a Greensboro Democrat, called Bad Bunny’s Spanish-only halftime show “the most American” He framed it as pushback against anti-immigrant sentiment. (Via Josh Shaffer) www.newsobserver.com/news/politic... #ncpol

My latest article is about how crime statistics do not support the narrative that downtown #Greensboro is disproportionately dangerous. Multiple white men are arguing with this in Facebook comments, often without having read the article.

Police, business owners say downtown not dangerous
According to the Greensboro Police Department, violent crime is not more prevalent downtown than elsewhere in the city. Some who live, work, or regularly visit there agree.

The #CivilRights #SitIns that began in #Greensboro spread throughout the year. On #ThisDayInHistory in 1960 they reached #Raleigh. About 150 Black youth, trained in #NonViolent tactics (later creating #SNCC) occupied lunch counters at #Walgreens, #Woolworths, and other locations.

Feb. 1, 1960, 4 NC A&T students sat-in at the “whites only” counter at Woolworths in Greensboro. Their defiance ignited a movement led to the birth of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee.

Young people fuel movements. It is inspiring to see that today they still do.

I went to college in Greensboro in the early 00s, where Card writes a regular column for the local right-wing paper, and it was in this way that I learned that Card is fucking deranged.

Homophobia isn't even half of the terrible shit he advocates for.
