Not sure I’d accept the over the top description of HTLGI but they’re certainly making bad decisions about how to be edgy, controversial, relevant. Figures from both sides of the political divide have been questionable but agree, this is a new low. Expecting audience protests as there were with Tice

Gonna re-up this because I still can’t stop thinking about how insane HTLGI is and how the ‘world’s largest philosophy & music festival’ was for years obviously a reputation laundering machine for right-wing extremists and now it’s got a fascist headlining it

FFS, if you’ve ever been to HTLGI you’ll know that people like Yarvin will get a very critical reception (as Richard Tice did this year). You don’t defeat the far right by pretending they don’t exist or blackballing them - that just feeds their mythology.

Richard Tice was at HTLGI this year. I went to see him. He was politically incoherent, and didn’t do well under questioning. HTLGI isn’t a platform for people on the populist right - it’s a polite but embarrassing nightmare.

I don’t think it’s obvious! The alarm bell was HTlGI giving Curtis Yarvin a big platform last summer, but it doesn’t read as a happy line up this year
