Im pretty here or there on incap spells but I will go to bat for charm. Its a fun roleplay spell and easy to get use out of, you can even use it to mabye get info out of a cagey npc. Only knock against it is its probably harder to get use on a spontaneous caster

and that same kind of magic is DEVASTATING to people less powerful than you! you wouldnt throw out fireballs in a crowded high society banquet, just like you shouldnt use an incap spell on a more powerful enemy. some spells are stronger in different situations, thats not even abnormal!

...but the reality is *PF2e IS the middle ground.* You go slightly either way, you go back to either extreme of just letting the most potent abilities work and trivialising what should be a narrative threat, or you do this *points down*.

Lower encounter difficulty. 'No that's patronising.'
Give them higher level items. 'I know I'm cheating then though.'
Remove incap if you don't like it 'my GM won't do that' GEE I WONDER WHY THEN

I have talked about this before both on here and on my YouTube channel but a somewhat important thing for playing a caster at higher than 5-6th level is something I call "Pacer Spells"

For a more general example, look at everyone who whines about the game caring about balance over fun, and their litmus for 'fun' is...stunlocking a boss-level threat with cheap easy exploits to the point you may as well just remove incap and lower all saving throws to appease them.

Like, no please, these games have historically escalated power caps to the point any sort of contextual minutia is basically pointless. If that's the game you want, we'll just play 2e with weak template enemies all vulnerable to incap because that's basically the same experience.
