I've had a card in the King County Library System since I was five.

KCLS is a great example of how libraries should be done. It's been immeasurably valuable to me for almost as long as I can remember.
Libraries are sites of refuge, where curiosity is nurtured, where people find shelter, education, entertainment, job assistance, skill-building programs, and access to resources that would otherwise be out of reach.
In the Fight Against Fascism, Libraries Should Be Defended — Not Defunded
Libraries represent the kind of infrastructure progressive leaders must fortify at all costs, especially in this moment.

This is exactly why I got so pissed off last night about being guilt tripped for donating to the kcls foundation like...idek $30 or smth. Libraries are so valuable and ppl who complain about our taxes funding them being all they should get are just jealous bitter sacks of knowledge hating sludge.
Sometimes I think it’s going to be the librarians who will save us all.

Not my favorite of the KCLS branches, but very nice. Congratulations to them!
Congratulations to the Bellevue Library on 100 years of serving our community! For generations, this library has empowered readers, supported students, & brought people together.

Thank you to everyone who’s kept this institution thriving for a century — and counting.
‘A place where you feel welcome’: King County Library’s biggest branch turns 100
What began as a humble collection of 300 primarily discarded books in 1925 has since grown to become the biggest branch within the King County Library System.

Every one of those questions was so important, but the part about them feeding library customer use data to an AI was just infuriating. SPL and KCLS protect that data from entities like ICE and they're just lifting it and feeding it to CLAUDE?? I'm so mad my head is going to explode.
November 15, 2025 at 6:16 AM
Oh, and why aren't you using KCLS data as well? KCLS is a bigger library system, and your customer base pulls from KCLS readers just as much as SPL readers. Is it because KCLS protects their user information better?
