Can also pick up the Niʻihau dialect when learning 'Ōlelo Hawai'i?

That's why I love learning formal Hawaiian ('olelo Hawai'i) and Hawaiian pidgin.

I still struggle with saying Kaho'olawe.

When I am learning 'Ōlelo Hawai'i.

But despite that, the lines are delivered so well that unless you where yourself an Olelo speaker, you just wouldn't known. I do hope this brings interest amongst young Hawaiians in learning the languages of the first nations of Hawaii.

For the first time in many, many generations, my family is learning ʻŌlelo Hawaiʻi and Hawaiian culture as early as preschool thanks to Kamehameha Schools.

Kamehameha Schools’ Admission Policies May Face Legal Challenge
An anti-affirmative action group wants the school to end its policy of giving preference to Native Hawaiians. The school promises a vigorous defense.

US flag. Don't care for it.

Reason I am learning 'Ōlelo Hawai'i is because of the suppression.

Been acceptable to mock cultures in western countries.

When I mentioned learning 'Ōlelo Hawai'i. Been going through the Hawaiian language dictionary.

Easy media effects prediction: Jason Momoa’s Chief of War will lead to a considerable increase in people interested in and learning Ōlelo Hawaiʻi, the Hawaiian language

Learning 'Ōlelo Hawai'i from the dictionary, songs and websites.

Banning languages should be a crime against humanity. Saw a comment on Reddit saying that.

On a thread about learning 'Ōlelo Hawai'i.

Just finished the 2nd episode of Chief of War. Jason Momoa spoke at length about accurately depicting Hawaiian unification, and the months he spent learning Ōlelo, the indigenous language of Hawaii. Visually stunning and absolutely spellbinding.

Nobody should be complaining about subtitles.

I've been learning ʻōlelo for 2 years now. I can understand some dialogue no problem. Some bits, not so much. One of our canoe club coaches was the dialogue coach for the movie.

Indigenous people lost freedom to speak their languages.

'Ōlelo Hawai'i, which I am learning. Got targeted.

Still learning 'Ōlelo Hawai'i.
February is Mahina ʻŌlelo Hawaiʻi — Hawaiian Language Month.

Language is integral to our culture & identity, and it is how traditions are passed down for generations. CAPAC stands with the advocates working to preserve the native language of Hawaiʻi.

E mau ka ʻōlelo Hawaiʻi!

Learning 'Ōlelo Hawai'i.

To say the name of the fish, humuhumunukunukuāpua'a.

Also learn the lyrics of Hawai'i Aloha and Kaulana Nā Pua.

And this isn't just for mahu. It's for everything. I brought up the lexicon committee and how there were no native speakers there. Native speakers are the authorities on olelo Hawaii. We are essentially learning *their* language. We cannot impose our own ideas of what the words mean.

My kids’ father was born there, as was my uncle. We inherited his house. I am Oregonian. We try to be very respectful of Native Hawaiians. We are all learning Ōlelo and seek to understand the history, and plight of Hawaiian people. My son just worked dismantling the Jagger Museum for land back.

There are more than 350 languages spoken in the US, and I love that @duolingoverde.bsky.social even offers courses on indigenous languages, like Navajo.

I’m currently learning Native Hawaiian because I wholeheartedly refuse the notion that this country should only have one “official” ōlelo.

E kuhikuhi pono i nā au iki a me nā au nui o ka ʻike.

From the smallest ripple to the mightiest wave, true knowledge flows thru every current of understanding.

Like our ancestors who read tiny patterns near shore & great swells in the deep ocean, wisdom comes from embracing all levels of learning.
