Forgot to post these from a few days ago; the first Redpolls I got pics of this year, a flock of about 30 or so, at @nenature.bsky.social's Gossy Park NR. Seems to be a good winter for them this year 👍

Plant yote: Heliamphora nutans “Giant,” a Marsh pitcher from Mount Roraima and neighboring tepuis in South America.
Needed a repot because root mealies somehow got to it and they required direct poisoning…

6/9/25 - We finally have a beetle! Pretty freshly emerged, too, since it's still caramel-colored. Now we wait for the rest to catch up! 🤩

5/31/25 - Years ago I never would've pictured myself raising insects for frog food, but Aloy and 'Tallo are totally worth it. 🐸 They may be destined for the dinner table, but they'll live good little bug lives in the meantime. 🐛

Mixture of soap and neem oil, sprayed and allowed to sit for a while, then rinsing, and followed by spot treatments with rubbing alcohol. Repeat with soap and neem a few days later.
I haven’t been able to eradicate mealies, just control outbreaks. :(

I think Scale might be my least favorite pest to deal with among them all.
Aphids u blast them, thrips you isolate and nuke with systemic, mealies u can do a million things

I have conquered my migraine, ordered flu nasal vaccines, FOUND kid covid vaccines, tried to set up remote access to my parents’ ancient Mac, taken all the trashes out, watered plants (and sprayed a few for mealies uuugh), and I’m about to do dishes.

bought mealworms after not supplying them all summer (figured the critters didn’t need them) only to find that the crows recognize the mealworm bag from last year. hadn’t planned to feed *anyone* mealies until at least mid-november, but the corvid lobby is powerful!

the problem is the multi blend formulas that are used now much diff in 80s when pharma didn’t outright right their own laws. vaccines where individual so mealies, mumps, pox all had separate shits in diff yrs of K-5 . it was the 90s that upped doses and combined them into one and done shot.
