#openrightsgroup
Hi all, we have a couple of @openrightsgroup board nominees who need a seconder (another member). They seem like good candidates, so worth being on the ballot paper. if you would be willing to consider seconding them, let me know.

Any other @openrightsgroup members on here? Pondering putting my name forward to stand for election to their Board, but need a seconder. Very happy to reciprocate for anyone else.

So I left Facebook earlier on this year after I got annoyed at both the increasing amount of crap and ads on it, along with ever the fashwards drift of the platform. If that hadn’t made me abandon it, this would have.

@jonquark @openrightsgroup It is definitely a significant risk, I think the HO eVisa app works like this. And of course, eVisas don’t work except on an app; in both cases the systems will make some people very dependent on relatives or partners who are abusive.

Will the proposed UK government ID require an Apple/Andoid phone:

Entrenching that duopoly so far that government services rely on it sounds dangerous and anti-innovation.

@openrightsgroup do you guys already […]

I had heavily modified it, but it doesn't seem I have a copy of it to see whether the reply actually answered any if […]

@ indyradio @ openrightsgroup It would be funny if the fascist Elon Musk was successful in calling for elections, and the consequence was every right wing party was purged from government by the will of the people

@jim @openrightsgroup yeah, that'd be reasonable; though many EU countries have age verification laws, they aren't as broad reaching as OSA.

@thisismissem @openrightsgroup We can probably tell by doiuble checking if the site is accessible in EU countries

@thisismissem @openrightsgroup Yes that is true, not always easy to tell. Also, I wish they would use #error451 and explain their reasons there! Even if not the Lex Julia Majestatis.

@jim @openrightsgroup you'll want to probably filter out many smaller US news sites (like for local areas) because they've had geoblocking on for europe for years because they didn't want to deal with GDPR / cookie consent.
