She has a proper first name, but I have a reason for the nickname (for now)..!

As for her special scientific interests, those would be:
- Paleoecology
+ Saurology

and she is VERY passionate (to the point of forgetting to eat, sometimes) about all of it.

Yep. A lot of things that were just intuitive for some reason were fairly easy (or really easy): ecology, limnology, glacial geology, Quaternary paleoecology, microeconomics, geochemistry.

Very hard because no executive function nor study skills: Calculus II, III; structural geology, Spanish.

I’m putting my Rancho Gordo beans to work today in class. My paleoecology students are sampling and identifying “microfossils” (beans) from a time series and plotting relative abundance data. They have to grapple with how to handle data visualization, broken specimens, unknowns, lumping/splitting.

Rejection here too: rapid plant adaptation, with ARG development, empirical popgen, archaeology, and paleoecology.

I am a fan of natural history and maybe this is not super paleoecology but I really enjoyed the detailed and curious journey, personal and scientific, of Humboldt in The Invention of Nature by @andreawulf.bsky.social

This spring, I’m having my Paleoecology undergrads read one popular science book about a topic related to course themes (the history of life on Earth, any time or taxonomic group). What’s your favorite book in that vein? I’ve got a list of ~20 but want to make sure I’m not missing any good ones!

Love a good bivalve vs. brachiopod study.

Love a good modern analog study for paleoecology.

Love a good P/Tr physiological selectivity study.

I'm glad I'm not the only audience for this stuff.
Bivalves usurped brachiopods as the dominant benthic filter-feeders—the reasons why have been debated. new #Geology paper by Kemi Ashing-Giwa and colleagues support the hypothesis that sulfide played a significant role in the extinction’s selectivity.

No mistakes! I learned a lot! My commentary was simply speculation (informed by years meddling in Induan paleoecology and paleoclimate), building on your very solid presentation.
