SCOOP: The Bureau of Land Management says the largest solar project in Nevada — the Esmeralda 7 mega-farm — has been canceled

The news was quietly dropped via a sudden website update with no public word from any of the companies involved or a statement from the agency

Well, it's official. After our paper last year (onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10....), the Slender-billed Curlew is officially declared Extinct today.

Scientists dream of describing new species, not writing their obituary and epitaph, knowing that they are gone forever #ornithology

A park employee, who spoke with SFGATE on the condition of anonymity to protect their job, said they know of only one wilderness ranger working the entire park. And technically, that person is not even a ranger, the employee said, but a volunteer.

Fun fact, I used to work for one of the only living fungus gnat experts.

He researched gnats that lived in the wild and basically had zero impact on humans. I collected some in Latin America for him and hoped to have a fungus gnat species named for me but I don’t think he will ever describe it.

Don’t forget forfeiture of the property as well.

(If I’m reading it right).

The MMR vaccine is one of the most stunningly effective medical therapeutics in existence. It’s also safer than most of your everyday activities. This is simply an attempt to stop people from vaccinating.

Me too.

I don’t have any tattoos but I would totally get this species’ distinctive and characteristic genitalia tattooed on my body.

The only organized race I ever ran was a marathon. But I did train, my goal was to finish, and my toenails fell off and I had weird blood test results the next week (probably muscle damage).

I did it because my (now) ex-wife said I couldn’t.

That’s also a reason. And probably a bad one.

I think the only economically important species is the species in New Zealand that has bioluminescent fungus gnat larvae that people do boat tours to see the “glowworms” in caves!

That other things continue to happen should never take away from the fact that RFKJr is a sociopathic con man and should be nowhere near any power affecting the health and wellbeing of any person, in perpetuity.

Vote 2567 for Merlin.

But we do need a Shazam for frog and toad calls.

It really can't be said enough: the goal of the "anti-woke" movement was always to destroy social norms against bigotry. And it worked. And there's a whole lot of purportedly "left" thinkers & commentators who helped it -- indeed, it couldn't have been done without them.

They should feel bad.

this is very very funny, but I think my favorite part is the implication that Keanu Reeves got suckered into saying yes to a bad play

TFW you paid $1400 to see Beckett’s most famous work without knowing anything about it
One Star Review of Waiting for Godot on Broadway
I recently attended Waiting for Godot on Broadway and spent over $1,400 for two Row C seats (103 and 104). I'm a longtime admirer of Broadway productions and even hold a season pass for Shea's Performing Arts Theatre, so I came in with genuine enthusiasm and high expectations. Unfortunately, this show was unlike anything ! have ever experienced —and not in a good way.
What I encountered was not the artistry, music, or emotional storytelling I usually associate with Broadway, but instead what felt like an endless cycle of nonsensical conversation between characters who seemed trapped in their own madness. I tried-truly tried-to find meaning, symbolism, or even a thread of emotional resonance. I stayed through the first half hoping the second would offer clarity. But by intermission, it was clear: this was a waste of both time and money.
Keanu Reeves is an actor I respect greatly, but I cannot fathom why he would agree to participate in such a disjointed, inaccessible production. His talent was lost in a performance that defied reason rather than provoked insight.
To anyone considering attending: unless you are drawn to highly abstract, nearly incomprehensible theater, I strongly caution you against this show. For the average, educated, thoughtful theatergoer, it is far more frustrating than fulfilling. In my opinion, this was the single most disappointing Broadway experience I've ever had - an unfortunate waste of money and, more importantly, of time.
