Woohoo! Palynology for the win! (Never thought I'd be typing that, hahahahaha...)
Dibble is doing well...

What frustrates me is that Hancock is asking some really interesting questions underneath it all. But he isn't attempting to answer any of it and just going in circles and bitching because he is a bitter old man...
Watching @flintdibble.bsky.social on Joe Rogan with Hancock. Half an hour in and beside Hancock clearly being an Anthropocene tool himself, can we please get him some varifocals?

He's so bitter that his wannabe archaeology isn't accepted without question by actual archaeologists it is really sad!

studying past discourse cross-pollination events like palynology from ice core samples
'defensive posting' is an instance of a general human discourse phenomena i think

the closest normie analog is 'therapyspeak' which is also constructed to pre-empt unproductive conversation chains that are likely to occur and cross-pollinated with tumbler-speak in the Before Times

I'm in academia atm. I've been doing precambrian sedimentology and palynology. Part of my issues are the classism and ableism in academia. The rest I can't discuss publically atm, but it's things that are out of my control.

Our beloved teacher in palynology, Michèle Dupré, has left us — a luminous being of knowledge and kindness. May she rest in peace and live on in all of us who learned from her how to walk lightly, rise gently, and fall without a sound.

I feel like I am back to Kangaroo Island while counting these modern pollen samples 😍🔥 a lovely mixture of Acacia, Banksia and other Proteaceae 🤓

Sorry pics not to scale (shot using the phone camera on microscope technique) 😅

I'm only familiar with some of the ecological sides of Q. garryana (fire, palynology, etc.) but Prof. Nancy Turner (our departments are in the same building) has written a lot about the ethnobotany of coastal BC trees and shrubs, and worked with Indigenous elders

We scratch-built my shed-office. insulation in the walls and ceiling makes all the difference.

At this time of year the big Nvidia gpu card dissipates enough heat to keep me warm.

This one looks attractive and I'd be curious to know who gets the position #palynology #palaeoecology

Happy #FossilFriday from under the microscope with this freshwater acritarch!
While we don’t know the full evolutionary tree of this tiny fellow, some people believe they may have descended from algal ancestors. Thanks @paleotrin.bsky.social !

Today was a huge milestone! Gave my first oral presentation at a conference! Presenting research that combined my passions for hadrosaurs (Edmontosaurus literally my favourite dinosaur lol), palaeobotany + palynology was a dream come true. So very grateful to my supervisors 🌿

I’m having real issues #focusstacking with #Helicon for these pollen grains. If anything it just seems to lose definition of features that can be seen in the individual photos. Happy to receive advice from any #palynology folk!

One of the challenges of #palynology is that you don’t know if there is #pollen in your sample until right at the end of the process.

In some cases, the core may be unique and irreplaceable, especially where land has since been developed or reclassified. Maintaining a reference library of boreholes enables future research to take place using new techniques, saving time, reducing costs and limiting the environmental impact.

Tonight I had one job. No #invertebrates, it is #palynology night.
1/2
Simply dissect some herbarium specimens (tiny flowers about 3mm across). Filter them if possible and spin down the #pollen in the centrifuge to end up (hopefully) with a small yellow pellet at the bottom of the eppendorf.
