#popinae
Inspiration for my next breakfast bar! One of the many bars and popinae that lined the Decumanus Maximus at Pompeii; especially as you neared the vicinity of the arena.

Taken March 25.

🫂 food is hard. Bring back ancient Roman popinae and thermopiliae! I want to stop off on my way home for a dice game, a friendly chat with my local sex workers, and a flatbread full of chickpeas and garum!!!

A tasty shot today. Outside the arena you could buy all sorts of food and drink to last throughout the day. A more temporary version of the ‘popinae’ that provided fast food and drink for many romans across the empire. But what’s that sneaking in the rolls?

Who knew? Pompeii (79 BC/CE) had the first fast food stands: <a href="http://luckypeach.com/fast-food-nation/" class="hover:underline text-blue-600 dark:text-sky-400 no-card-link" target="_blank" rel="noopener" data-link="bsky">http://luckypeach.com/fast-food-nation/ "thermopolia" or "popinae"
