Groups across the country have received letters notifying them that their grants from the National Endowment for the Humanities have been canceled, raising alarms about serious harm to museums, historical sites, and a wide range of community projects The letters, sent by Musk staffers, come amid his push to cut up to 80 percent of the agency’s roughly 180-person staff. Let’s be clear: these grants were already awarded and are funded through bipartisan Congressional appropriations. Terminating them is illegal.
