Sega World London's Sonic Arcade machine has resurfaced. I wondered what happened to it.

I touched it when I was a kid but sadly it was a "We have Sonic at home" moment from the mother so never got to actually play it...

𝙎𝙚𝙜𝙖𝙒𝙤𝙧𝙡𝙙, an indoor theme park that opened in September 1996 in the London Trocadero, featuring many different arcade games, VR rides, and a giant Sonic statue! Does it look awesome or what?? 🤩

Before I had to head to the station, I tried to snap a shot of the former SegaWorld, only to realise a car got in the way and I didn't notice until much later!

I may have been too young to properly remember you, but you will be missed. 🫡

I get it, I too was somewhat mystified and obsessed with The Trocadero in London as a kid too.

Someone needs to tell them they need to rotate the left arm up a bit so Sonic looks like he's shedding a tear. Otherwise I love all this restoration work lately, between this, the Segaworld statue and that snowboarding Sonic found in a Japanese forest.

Decent plan but it won't be as good compared to the SegaWorld era or Funland era of The Troc.
They could've just stick to the world's biggest arcade plans just like in the past.

Happy to see that the SegaWorld Sonic statue is still doing well.

…growing up there was briefly a ‘Segaworld’ mall theme park in central London. short lived, but excellent, and telling of the 90s hold on everyone the label had

That's really surprising, you'd think Daytona USA cabs would be dime a dozen given how popular it was in arcades. I see the original cabs all over Europe, and in some cases the 8 player setup.

(Heart of Gaming here in the UK has the original 8 player setup originally used at SegaWorld London)

Oh my god I'd love to do one about Dragon Age or Kojima-Directed MGS. (Or Segaworld.)
June 26, 2025 at 4:20 AM
Dude it was HEAVEN.

Even after it stopped being SegaWorld, it continued having the best arcade in the UK for years after, so many arcade games like the ones below

Then some idiot bought the building and hasn't done anything with it since 😑

Visited a neat lil retro arcade bar in Charlotte, NC yesterday. Lots of unexpected finds and a generally cool atmosphere.

First time I've seen SegaSonic The Hedgehog out in the wild since SegaWorld London back in the 90s!

I'm still so sad that SegaWorld/Funland at The Trocadero is gone. 😢

From when Sega had arcades.
Pretty sure I got this card from the one in Irvine, CA. 1990s. More standard arcade than the theme park like attraction that SegaWorld at the Troc was.

Tbf this was pretty much my exact reaction when I first went to SegaWorld as a little guy
Here's part of the SegaWorld scene in the movie. The whole thing is six minutes (!).

Ps. I went there when I was like 12 and I got so mad because I thought SegaWorld was a Sega museum and I wanted tp see the SG-1000 or early Sonic prototypes, not play random coin-ops.
Yes I'm weird and strange, why you ask?

If you want to see the now-defunct SegaWorld pop up in a movie, you'll have to suffer through the 1998 Italian comedy Cucciolo, with Massimo Boldi.
The London theme park is featured in quite a long scene, with the protagonist even excitedly calling out its name several times.
