Campbell was born in 1808, the son of a local sheepfarmer. He crossed the Atlantic aged 22 to work for the Hudson Bay Company, intially as a farmer and later as a fur trader.

This was the last batch of lambs that was going to auction this year.

This year has been tough to make an income being a small farm. Food prices have gone up but the farmers never see that increase.

This is analogously true for almost all of us, everywhere, it's not just a movie star thing, our social experience is not tied to place the way it used to be. There are folks here on this site that are more rural sheepfarmer than Salt Lake City accountant.

Amy Maud Bock (1859-1943) was New Zealand’s most notorious female con artist. She had numerous court appearances and convictions for theft, fraud and false pretences. In 1909 she posed as ‘Percy Redwood’, a wealthy sheepfarmer, and married Agnes Ottaway.

The trial of "the female bridegroom" overtook newspaper headlines for several weeks. Archives New Zealand holds numerous records on her including her intention to marry record and her police file. This postcard comes from a patent file by would-be entrepreneur Cecil Pattillo, who marketed postcards of Amy dressed as a man to sell as souvenirs of the notorious trial.
