It's shibuya-kei. It has all of the feeling in the world, and you're not supposed to attach any depth to it. It’s BPD. It has all of the feeling in the world, and you’re

I find myself listening to Pink Moon for a break like that

Alternatively, though, I'm always quick to sing the praises of Shibuya-kei bands like Advantage Lucy and Spitz. Nice and jangly Japanese pop that still feels different from the UK bands that inspired them

#albumshuffle Day 421: Halicali - Halicali Bacon [For Life, 2003]

Debut album from a female Japanese duo performing a cheery blend of shibuya-kei and hip hop. Immaculately produced genre blending pop and their flow is great. The standout track おつかれSummer was produced by Fantastic Plastic Machine.

20.) Pizzicato Five - Made in USA

Listened to this for the first time last month (thanks @fm-synth.bsky.social ) but never logged it. Some of the finest shibuya-kei you ever did listen to. A must if you found yourself wanting more music that sounded like the Katamari soundtrack.

They all emptied the clip into both feet & reloaded. It's telling that the Japanese acts with the biggest international reach before anime lit-off worked relatively outside of the main system, such as Shibuya-kei acts like Cornelius & Pizzicato Five. They locked in with western labels early on.

MAGFest really wore me out this year, but I do feel creatively rejuvinated like I do every year. There's always a panel or something that gets the gears in my head turning. I think this year it was the Shibuya Kei panel
