What some Black folks took away from Sinners made me realize that a lot of Y’all some of WHITE evangelical Christianity’s strongest soldiers.

Voodoo/hoodoo/etc is practiced on others. You can't cast on yourself. An example, the dolls used in predominantly healing spells and such (the voodoo doll people like demonizing so much) can ONLY be done for someone else. I can't make and use a doll of myself, for myself.

Just re-watched Sinners, and there is SO MUCH in the beginning that doesn’t jump out until you re-watch. So many little moments and seemingly throwaway lines.
I’m reminded on the re-watch the depth of craft and care that went into that gorgeousness.

More Sinners thoughts: in a post-GoT world, I think filmmakers err on the side of “show every traumatic bloody thing in excruciating detail.” I think it’s telling that we experience 1) the lynching Slim recounts and 2) the death of Annie and Smoke’s child through sound and symbol.

If Mary hadn’t convinced Stack to let her go outside, she wouldn’t have gotten bit and then come back inside and bit Stack. Stack’s death wouldn’t have caused the party shutting down, therefore getting everyone else killed. #Sinners #Sinnersspoilers #spoilers
