St Bartholomew the Great Church, Smithfields, London. Perhaps its location beyond the city walls saved it from fashionable renovation down the centuries, leaving the Romanesque beauty intact.

Big news for bacon lovers! lol. Hot honey really is the food of the moment, and Smithfield's caught onto that at just the right time.

Buuuuut if you'd rather make your own hot honey bacon...

Smithfields can be bob tail or full tail. They can work cattle or sheep.
I've not heard them called stumping tailed cattle dogs, but, hey it's a big world!

The original balloon is in a box at the Museum of London, re-sited at Smithfields market but not open yet. Hoping to see a new one tomorrow.

just read about the city of london corporation wants to close billingsgate and smithfields because they dont want to pay for a new site.

the city could easily save the markets if they wanted to. just get the chaps out for lunch and then the chaps will rally around and help the chaps out.

This is an absolute lie. Due to the sheer volume of livestock and horse drawn carriages, the Tudor houses had to be built on stilts to prevent dung and blood flooding into the home. The stilts are particularly high here due to the proximity to Smithfields and their slaughterhouses.
Despite easily being the most British fighting vehicle ever developed, the mock-Tudor AT-AT programme was sadly cancelled due to budgetary concerns

A privilege to visit the astonishing medieval/Tudor Charterhouse today w work volunteers, and then explore that fantastic area around Smithfields. Always a joy to discover Nairn and Fletcher's hidden corners of 'disappearing London', still standing.

El ganado llegaba del Norte de Londres y lo dejaban pastar cerca de Copenhagen Fields. Una vez a la semana, los pastores bajaban poco antes del amanecer rumbo a Smithfields para, literalmente, llevarlos al matadero./8

#OtD 23 Jun 1950 delivery drivers for Smithfields meat market in London went on wildcat strike. Lasting until July, the strike was condemned by the Labour government who brought in troops as scabs to break the strike stories.workingclasshistory.com/article/9579...

Absolutely disgraceful from the unelected Corp. of London.

If they asked the public, I'm sure they would see that more unaffordable central London flats are not wanted, if it means the loss of vital, cultural & commercial heritage.
