Making good progress on the initial draft for Murderhound Ch4. Still got a lot of exciting work ahead, but i feel pretty good about what I’ve got so far, so i figured I’d share a preview in the meantime:
Columbo sighs and decides to move on instead. “Alright, so…handler. What do you think of her, exactly?” A slight smile came to A617’s face. It couldn’t help it. “Love Her.” The woman thinks for a moment. Something about its answer seemed to bother her, somehow. “You love her, huh? You love your handler, right? Are you absolutely sure? Wouldn’t you hate her, especially after everything that’s been done to you? All the torture and brainwashing, and…and…” Columbo stops and turns away, completely lost in her own thoughts. There was a bit of hesitation in her voice. The dog could hear it all. Apprehension and doubt. Whatever was bothering her was so clearly eating away at her. For A617, however, no such doubt existed. Some confusion at what she asked, but most definitely not any doubt. With joy in its voice, it gives its answer. “Why….why would it hate Her? It loves Handler. Handler loves it. Handler does everything for its own good.” Something inside that woman suddenly snaps, and she quickly steps up close to A617 and slams her fist against the wall with all of her might. It flinches at the suddenness of it all. Righteous fury burning from within her, threatening to go out of control. So close to the dog’s face, Columbo is practically screaming now. “How can you say any of that?! Don’t you realize anything about what’s been happening, what this ‘handler’ has even done to you?! She’s destroyed your life! Done unspeakable things to you! How can you just sit there and say that any of it is okay?!” She slams her fist against the wall once more. Tears are flowing down her face. “How can any of you live with this…this sick devotion for any of them?!” A617 sits up straight, and looks Columbo straight in the eye. That burning rage is tinged with a fathomless sorrow that threatens to drown her. It takes a deep breath, and then simply repeats the truth that was engraved on its heart. “She’s my everything. Handler is my universe.” A moment passes as the two look at each other. Drowning in her own tears, Columbo soon turns away, and without saying another word, storms out of the cell, and vanishes into the corridor beyond. Shortly afterwards, the cell bars slide closed. The lights return to their dim state. Alone again one more, A617 decides to lay down and rest. This time, its thoughts settle on Columbo. Foolish and strange as she was, she was certainly a kind and unflappable woman. At least, until now. It couldn’t help but wonder what could be bothering her. Perhaps she hasn’t gotten enough sleep? After a minute of consideration, it shakes its head and closes its eyes. Thinking of such things wasn’t important. It was just a dog, after all.

You know, back in the 70’s when I was a very young gay, the straight world didn’t want our money. There were no businesses that catered to our community or much less respected us. So we created our own monetary ecosystem that filled that void. Banks, doctors, stores and more, we kept our money home.

The camera pans out from the initial headshot of Frenchie to reveal an interview set-up, not unlike the tribute interviews during the Games. Frenchie sits down on a tall backed chair as the camera keeps zooming out. “I'm joined here today with one of the co-Victors of the 74th Hunger Games, and survivor of the third Quarter Quell, Stede Bonnet.” “Oh my god,” Ed mutters under his breath, his body moving closer to the screen under its own volition. The camera had timed it so that Stede had only been revealed, seated in the chair across from Frenchie, when Frenchie had announced his name. “You're alive.” For a long moment, the screen cuts to a medium shot of Stede and Ed’s breath catches. He looks… different. His eyes have dark heavy circles under them, and he's sitting in such a rigid posture, back straight to the chair. Stede might be proper, but not like this. His lips are smeared with a natural shade of lipstick, but beneath that, Ed can see that they’re horribly chapped, like they haven’t been giving him enough water. But he's alive. He's alive and breathing, and that's all Ed can ask for right now. Now that everyone had left the cave and are well enough away that Lucuis can no longer hear their voices, he becomes increasingly aware of the silence. It’s so quiet and still, almost as though the stone is sucking all of the noise into its depths, like the soundless vacuum of space. It is so profound that Lucius can hear the sound of his blood pulsing in his ears, pulsing fast because his anxiety over the Badminton interaction and his stupid choices have his heart racing. God, what was that? he berates himself. The knee-jerk, ego-petting, worst-choice-possible reaction to boast about their new career-altering, history-altering discovery. To the two worst people on the planet. Who could actually do a shit ton of damage not just to him, but to all of them. Even to the extraordinary skeletons in this cave! He thought he’d matured beyond rising to the Badmintons’ antics, but he supposes not. Perhaps it’s the trauma of dealing with them in his formative years as an early career scholar. But that’s hardly an excuse to put so many other careers in danger. He hasn’t been this much of a disappointment since his Ph.D. supervisor read the first draft of his dissertation! That was, at least, easily fixed. But this? He can’t say.He takes a few deep breaths, hears his heartbeat slow in his ears, blinks, and looks around. “Okay, get it together,” he tells himself. “There’s work to do here.” Almost tiptoeing so as not to disturb the solace the skeletons had enjoyed for tens of thousands of years, Lucius approaches them and crouches to look at them more closely. Once again, he marvels at their embrace. Two male specimens, two species, a missing link of a sort on the scale of Lucy! He really won the survival bias lottery with this one. “No,” he whispers firmly to himself. “Enough of making a name for myself. Focus on the research. Focus on the two people in front of me and the life they’ve told in the art on these cave walls. Think of their story within the context of “I want to see the overworld.” She's met with silence, the kind of silence that makes you squirm in your seat in embarrassment for even opening your mouth. But she keeps going, “I know you guys don't allow it but… but I want to see the real plants, the kind that dad doesn't have to grow himself.” “We have everything we could ever need here,” her father says with an uncharacteristically harsh tone, “you have no business going up there, young lady.” “But dad–” “No buts!” Stede takes a deep breath, “We keep you and your brother here to protect you, it's not safe up there.” She looks over at Ed, who matches Stede's pinched brow and disapproving glare. “Please, nothing grows here, it dies in a couple hours and has to be grown back, it's all in a constant state of decay.” “But it's our decay. Nothing here belongs to that poor excuse of an uncle you and I are unfortunately related to.” “But dad, please!” Ed slams his fist on the table, and his eyes go red, “No, end of discussion!” Alma stands and runs out of the room. Rumspringa (noun) - Pennsylvania German term meaning ‘to run around’, a rite of passage for certain Amish communities during adolescence before a person is baptized. Can manifest in not going to church on certain days, staying out later, slacking on chores, or going on extended trips to secular cities outside their community (among other things). It's a loaded thing to be faced with, rebelling against everything you ever knew, disobeying your parents who have been your strict guardians your entire life. And even worse, being expected to rebel in some way, that just adds even more pressure, how far is too far for Stede, he doesn't even know the limit he can handle. That is what the mere idea of Rumspringa is to him. He's a good kid, doesn't make too much noise, puts his head down and works, follows every order his father and mother give, sings the hymns in church and reads Bible passages when asked, who could ask for more in their child? But he has been feeling doubts, in himself, in his faith, in everything, really. But that's what Rumspringa is really for, for mentally preparing yourself for baptism, and deciding if you even want it. If he does, he already knows what's waiting for him here, the young woman he's now allowed to hang out with one on one, so long as there's a good five feet between them. Mary’s father is the lead pastor at church, and as such, he wants the best boy for his daughter. That fell to Stede, since his father runs one of the more successful farms in their community, selling at the big farmers market in Philadelphia every summerand bringing a ton of money back for the community. It's why they have some of the nicer roads in Lancaster county. They're arranged to be wed, if the Rumspringa goes how Stede's father wants it to go. A perfect blending of the families. But the thought scares Stede to his core.

Snow series/self shot
A pale blonde figure wearing all white is curled up laying down in a white expanse that seems to stretch on for eternity. Their eyes are closed and they seem at peace, an egg in a secure nest. Closer inspection reveals the white the figure is resting on is snow. The peace is a lie. There in ever ramping up pain, and the longer bare skin lies on snow, the more pain there is. There are no footprints around the figure and the snow is completely undisturbed. It's as if the person dropped straight out of the sky and nestled into the snow. Really pleased with the final outcome, which definitely stretched my skill set as a photographer. Winter landscape of a snow covered meadow, a border of bare branched trees in the distance creating a brown-black stripe that pushes the brilliant blue and white sky away from the endless white of the meadow. The snow is fresh and unmarked, a blank page waiting for a story
