Tasmanian Gothic started out as a literary genre but electing Eric Abetz means it is now a lifestyle.

I figure it’s one of those two—either the introduction of a new cocktail during the Dimension 20/Dirty Laundry crossover, or it’s a reference to an upcoming collaboration between MONA and the Art Museum of Western Australia involving the Tasmanian Gothic winter festival, Dark Mofo.

So. How’d I do?

2. TAZGW is not as easily parsed, but I think I have it. TAZ is clearly signalling Tasmania, and GW refers to the Tasmanian Gothic Winter festival, officially known as Dark Mofo. Dark Mofo is overseen by MONA, the Museum of Old and New Art, in Hobart, Tasmania, AU.

Tasmanian Gothic baby!!! A wonderful book about the unamed emotion you feel knowing grief is coming. About not giving up when the kindest and wisest thing to do is to throw in the towel.

medium-old guy saw my tattoos and excitedly said ‘i have one too, on my shoulder! wanna see?’ then proceeded to pull up his sleeve to show me a tattoo of Taz the tasmanian devil holding a glock saying ‘ROMANS 12:19’ in gothic letters in a speech bubble

Reminds me of Tasmania, actually.
But now it's leaning very much into the arts thanks to one weirdo who earned a shitload of money with online poker who decided to build his weird world reknowned museum (that he lets Tasmanians in for free) and 2 arts festivals that lean into Tasmanian gothic.

I’m sure it’s a quality production, and best of luck to all. But it’s hard to get excited when you know so many talented Tasmanians who have their own stories that don’t get funded. “Tasmanian Gothic” is not just a marketing term, you know? variety.com/2025/tv/news...

This came up in a list of Tasmanian thrillers to try, and I do love Tasmanian crime/gothic novels for their uncommon settings. What to Expect A romantic suspense and crime thriller, set in Tasmania. While the story's point of views shift between a few characters, the first half is centered around crimes (robberies escalating to murders) in Hobart, while the second is about a hike from hell in Tasmania's remote South West National Park.

It's day 10 of #IndieApril and today I'm going closer to home with Aussie author Mikhaeyla Kopievsky, purveyor of gritty urban fantasy.

Her novel Tasmanian Gothic sunk its claws in and wouldn't let go til the end. I had to find out if the MC found her mum. So good.

Eco-gothic I see but Tasmanian is to me only evocative of that guy

It's too dark a premise for a children's film, however if Beth Robert's book was adapted by a Palawa writer/director thirty years later and marketed as a Tasmanian gothic western, Manganinnie might've become a classic.

Another absolute classic!

I’ve been meaning to show you this, my brother’s band put out their EP a few weeks ago & it’s really good!

Not romance, but when I lived in Hobart, I read the Cafe La Femme cosy crime series by @tansyrr.bsky.social (as Livia Day) and was utterly delighted by them. So much fiction set in Tasmania is v dark (Tasmanian Gothic is a whole genre!), but these were fun and frothy while being so clearly *Hobart*.
#romancelandia have you ever read a romance set in a place you live (or have lived)? how did you feel about it?

"Beth wriggled from under him, and sat up on the couch, reaching for clothes, slowly and calmly. He watched her sleepily.

—This means we’re the same, Stephen, she said and looked at him to make sure he was hearing her."

A little piece of Tasmanian gothic I had published earlier this year.
