Pedantry incoming: that's a sousaphone, basically tuba for marching. Trombone's got that long slide on it, slightly higher pitch, doesn't sound quite as silly as the good olde tubaphone.

For me, probably a beautifully restored 1924 Vega Tubaphone banjo my (then) father-in-law, a collector and talented player, gave me when I finished grad school.

I saw him conduct his 7th Symphony in Moscow. Firstly, it wasn't planned and we just stumbled across it, and secondly, the orchestra was split up, so some players were out in the corridors, some were secreted in the audience, and he'd invented a new, weird sounding instrument called a tubaphone.
