As for mail, Zoho Mail is wildly underrated and I've found it to be significantly more reliable than Proton and Tuta. Attaching your own webdomain to it (optional, I believe) is FREE.
But honestly just use anything but Gmail.

@i-jasonalexander.bsky.social one way to verify is to get some organization you're part of to add your name to a special DNS record on a webpage they/you control. I'm nobody, but I do have a webdomain and setup my username here with that. That's why my name doesn't end in bsky.social.
