The striped blanket belonged to Pap-Paw and then my mom. The reindeer blanket also was my Mom's. I gave fleece blankets as gifts one year. Corner embroidery said Christmas 1999. (The "new" millennium is already a quarter gone!)

Pity we didn't have the kayaks with us that time. It looks like paddling there would have been fun. Also seen in the distance toward the foot of the mountains are the limestone formations known as tufa towers rising from the water’s surface. Photographers love to catch the eerie formations with different light effects. We didn't stick around long enough for that. It was on to Mt Whitney instead. The road to Mt Whitney... Oh well! Some of you may remember that I preferred to catch the sunrise from the comfort of the van. It was the height of luxury. All that open space entirely to ourselves. I'm not sure that's even possible today. I heard they put up a lot of signs since then. No telling what it's like these days.

My first camera since seriously getting back into photography, My father bought it , a #Kodak Retina in the PX when he was in the Army in Germany in the early 1950’s. I did B&W and developed/printed all the shots myself.

Last of my memories this week is a little leather-bound notebook inherited from my Mum, in which she began writing about her cycling adventures with her friend Do-Do in 1936 Merseyside. I filled in later pages in the 60s of my bike rides to Wales.
An old black and white photograph of a slim young dark-haired girl sitting, propped up on her arms on a beach. She wears a dress with puffed short sleeves and large light coloured bow at the neck. Behind her next to the sea wall, a group of people get ready for bathing. Above the wall a building can be glimpsed and an onlooker. My mother often rode to the nearby beaches on her cycle with friends in the 1930s and later with my father. On the top right is her little brown leather-bound book with the gold lettering, Cyclist’s Log Book. Below that is one of the pages, she filled in on July 16th 1936 of a trip to Talacre in north Wales - quite a distance from her home in Port Sunlight village on the Wirral peninsula in north-west England. She speaks of her friend Do-Do and then struggling over sand dunes to the beach where they got sand in their shorts, which must have made the homeward journey uncomfortable. Mum also mentions stopping at cafes for lunch and tea and lists her expenses on other pages - dinner 4d and tea 8d, which is less than four pence now, I think. Amazing.
