LAST ONE. I grew up on Wythe Ave my whole life. Into The Spiderverse was set there and that was big like Spiderman is PR from Williamsburg?! The gentrification moved so many of us out but my grandma was there until her last day. She helped shape it into what it was.. she was a force in this world

Huh- I grew up in Bucks County so we were out there a lot (my grandparents used to live there for a while) & I never heard that. Totally believable but ugh. Everyone sort of treated them like like the Colonial Williamsburg actors.

If you're unfamiliar with NYC or maybe just Williamsburg... or if you associate sugar cane with the South and Caribbean only... you may not understand the significance of the Caribbean Social Club or Puerto Ricans even being there ... but it was the very same reason... azúcar.

The song Ricky Martin performed, Lo Que Le Pasó a Hawaii, critiques the potential consequences of U.S. statehood for Puerto Rico and is a plea for the island to avoid the fate of Hawaii, where American colonization led to the marginalization of Native Hawaiian language and cultural practices

people not from Brooklyn probably don’t realize Williamsburg was a HEAVY Puerto Rican neighborhood until gentrification started. you had them on one side of the hood and the Hasidic ppl on the other side. then the yuppies and hipsters came and the rest is what we have now.

lrp pls understand how much he was specifically repping nuyoricans too. a lot of the issues he brings up as far as gentrification pushing ppl out etc that’s going on in PR on the macrocosm has also been happening on the microcosm here in NYC. williamsburg being one of the worst examples

Not a rap fan but I grew up in Williamsburg Brooklyn when it was lotsa lotsa Puerto Ricans and this show reminded me of my neighbors when I was a kid-the culture my neighbors carried here is a childhood memory. Thank you!

Eagle-eyed watchers of Bad Bunny's Super Bowl halftime show would have spied Toñita, the queen of Los Sures, AKA Williamsburg.
