The last word on the cockup vs. conspiracy conundrum.

The thing about crashing a tank through a museum of antiquities is that you don't have to be a particularly skilled driver to do a lot of damage.

It's difficult at times to hold both "this admin is doing lasting and serious damage to our institutions and the globe" and "this admin is full of the most bafflingly incompetent idiots you've ever seen who fall over themselves like a Vaudeville act constantly."

The duality of man is incredible.

And that ship has sailed because Tories are too stupid to vote, and the prospect of returning to a moderate right-of-centre position is close to nil.

Yes, but English?! In any case, she is a Computing Studies graduate, a field with some of the highest rates of graduate unemployment and lowest rates of pay - I think worse than English (last time I checked, but these things vary significantly).

The ventriloquist act they booked for the Tory Conference looks a bit shit.

I want this to be true.

In the early days of Wikipedia I created a fake entry about my village that included a fake Lord in the middle ages named after an 80s B Movie action hero. It is still up and being taught in the local Primary school as fact.

No doubt, although Brexit has led to an entirely home-grown successive radicalisation among the Tories. Jenrick started as a moderate, but moved further and further to the right, out of cynical calculation, more than conviction.

Don't forget that 41 Tory MPs in the last government took Russian donations. That might account for media reticence to report on the Nathan Gill case.

It helps to be able to spell the country you say only you are competent enough to run.
Goody-bag merch from Tory Conference branded "When Labour negotiates Britian loses" and signed "Kemi Badenoch".

No-one with a functioning brain cell thought that, but never mind.

In that particular ideological niche, it is fashionable to assert, against all the historical evidence, that the Nazis were socialists.

Beaten me to it! And what makes it worse is that he's not stupid, so, with minimal self-awareness and considering his past positions, he would be able to to 2 and 2 together. But no.

I would consider that a correct, nay astute, observation.

Fair point, but I'm not quite equating them or at least that wasn't the intention.

You're probably right, but it's still not something to crow about.

Well, what is all the fuss about making indefinite leave to remain harder, then? Is there any evidence that there is a problem with it? I'm an immigrant and I don't get the vibe that the home secretary is on my side at all, sorry!
bjornheile.bsky.social
It's never been easy, and there has been anti-immigrant rhetoric for as long as I've been here (1998), but there is a new quality to this, and it's nasty and disgusting!
bjornheile.bsky.social
It seems that the political mainstream in the UK, from Labour to Reform and including most of the media, has decided that immigrants (all of us) are the enemy. There have to be as few of us as possible, and those of us who remain are at best tolerated, as long as our lives are as difficult as poss.

What are they thinking?! At the moment when they're about to ditch some of their most toxic policies, they are adopting a new one that can only further lose them support. No sense of direction or strategy beyond the next focus group meeting.
