Great news: just received the NOA for a K23 grant from NIMH!
This project will test whether brain stimulation (TMS) can target core symptoms of psychopathy, which are implicated in a substantial proportion violent acts nationwide.

(E.g., where does that “log” come from? Are there other possible formulas?)

Using theory-driven modeling – there is a reason for that interaction that was *hopefully* preregistered. Because the orthogonalized interaction doesn’t impact the direct effects, you can show your interaction hypothesis test but still connect with the literature by interpreting direct effects.

Are callous-unemotional (CU) traits purely affective, or do they also involve cognitive processes? A recent RCT finds CU traits uniquely linked to cognitive-affective interaction difficulties that also associated with antisocial behavior. doi.org/10.31234/osf...

An interaction causes residual dependence. This can be avoided with orthogonalization with the added benefit of interpreting both direct and interaction effects in one model. This is outlined in some of Todd Little’s work. If I’m not mistaken Dr. Mumford uses a related mean centering approach.
