A huge shoutout to all the dedicated grants management specialists at the NIH who are working around the clock to push grants out before the Sep 30 deadline. And also to the POs responding to frantic emails.
Not an easy job under the best of circumstances and right now it's the pits.
Thank you!

Semi-regular reminder that the AMOC and the Gulf Stream are no the same thing.

The collapse of the AMOC would be Catastrophic.

The collapse of the Gulf Stream would be Apocalyptic.

Thrilled to share our new Ecography paper! 🌊🐟

We put species distribution models to the test during marine heatwaves and found that integrating diverse data types through joint-likelihood approaches makes forecasts more resilient under novel ocean conditions.

Data integration improves species distribution forecasts under novel ocean conditions
Accurate forecasts of species distributions in response to changing climate is essential for proactive management and conservation decision-making. However, species distribution models (SDMs) often h...

Did you know that we know less about the sea than we do about space? With this comic, we explore some of what scientists do know about Earth's ocean.

My latest: Polar scientists warn that the White House and NSF are planning to terminate the Nathaniel Palmer, the only US research icebreaker capable of handling Antarctic extremes, this October.

So far the plan has seen minimal pushback from Congress.

Senate and House propose less cuts than the president's budget but there are still significant cuts proposed. House budget suggests >40% cuts to NASA earth science, >40% cuts to NMFS within NOAA, >40% cuts to NIH. Also, appropriated money may not being sent to agencies to spend.

boomer opinion i have is that there are way more young adults out there who legit don’t know how to take care of themselves in very basic ways than we’d probably be comfortable with knowing

Similarly to NASA Earth Science cuts mentioned above, it seems National Marine Fisheries Service also is subject to 40% cuts in the house budget.
