Sweet Jebus

“Witkoff isn’t consistently engaged. He will pop in for a visit to Putin, say a bunch of stuff, not tell anyone what really happened and then just fuck off to his life again. Meanwhile, the Russians are talking to you about how ‘Witkoff says…’ and you don’t know whether they’re right”
‘His inexperience shines through’: Steve Witkoff struggles to manage Russia as Trump peace envoy
Witkoff’s solo approach has led to repeated miscues with Russia, leaving Trump’s pledge to quickly end the war between Russia and Ukraine adrift.

Whatever is going on with Trump, he is certainly being treated by real doctors and not whatever quack science he’s trying to kill the rest of us with.

if Trump drops dead over the weekend I’ll enjoy the pundits’ takes on how it’ll impact next year’s midterms

I mean, I’d enjoy everything

Limited emergency powers make a lot of sense if your government is run by serious, sober minded people so I also don’t believe they should exist.

Not according to what I’m reading. The danger is that in some people it can have the same effect as anabuse, the drug they prescribe to force people to abstain from alcohol.

I might risk it on my birthday. Bad adverse reactions can happen but are rare and I tend to tolerate drugs pretty well.

I’m not gonna do it. I don’t consent. Gonna roll the dice the day after I’m done.

Which would be not only substantively disastrous for the economy but also really annoying.

Blame our strong presidential system and fecklessness of Congress over a fairly long period of time.

Maybe you shouldn’t be cynical and just assume that SCOTUS will bless Trump’s tariffs, I dunno, but two Obama appointees ruled in his favor and 3 Dem appointees decided that it woulda been kosher had he justified them a bit differently so…

By a 7-4 vote, the full Federal Circuit has *affirmed* a lower-court ruling holding that many of President Trump’s tariffs exceed his statutory authority.

The ruling won’t go into effect until October 14, though—which gives the Trump administration plenty of time to seek intervention from #SCOTUS:

I was just prescribed a 10-day course of antibiotics that don't mix with booze so my dry August is gonna last 5.5 weeks. And my birthday falls in there.

Damn, I was really looking forward to breaking my booze fast.

I decided to take a month-long booze break and haven’t had a drop in 26 days.

I thought I’d feel terrific and energized but mostly I just feel like I’d love to have a coupla drinks.

Was rummaging through old articles and found this one of Demetre Daskalakis. Apparently, back in 2013, he went to New York City's gay sex clubs and bathhouses and administered meningitis vaccines and helped beat an outbreak.
At the height of a meningitis outbreak last year among gay and bisexual men in New York City, Demetre Daskalakis, a wiry AIDS doctor and gay health activist, spent late nights and early mornings in the city’s sex clubs and bathhouses. There, he would strip off his leather jacket and, in his muscle T-shirt, talk the men around him into letting him inject them with meningitis vaccines.

Dr. Daskalakis was given the go-ahead and free vaccine by the city, after city officials found that their own efforts to infiltrate the clubs and house parties, where the meningitis was believed to be spreading, were mostly met with suspicion and hostility. The vaccination campaign ultimately reached at least 16,000 people and was credited with curbing an outbreak that some feared would become the next AIDS epidemic.

Honestly, even the Dem numbers are pretty bleak. Disinfo works if 42% of those who aren't in the wingnut bubble say something other than 'very safe."
