This is a lie.

There are many criticisms you might sensibly and truthfully make of the Sentencing Council and the Sentencing Guidelines. I’ve been making them for years.

But this is an outright lie. Pure fabrication. A fraud on the public.

This is Shuranjeet Singh, standing in the allotment at St Michael's C of E Primary School in Handsworth, Birmingham, where he is a governor. I'm sure that Robert Jenrick can immediately tell by looking at him that he's working tirelessly on integration. IIRC, he has a Masters from Oxford.

Say hello to literally the only protesters outside Tory conference this year

Exactly the same time for me. But it doesn’t feel like it.

Geese’s new album is fabulous. It has grown on me even more after a week of listening.

Geese, with their new album "Getting Killed," have achieved something miraculous for 2025: suggesting a future to look forward to, @skornhaber.bsky.social writes.
Finally, a New Idea in Rock and Roll
The band Geese is pushing the genre in new and electrifying directions.

Six weeks ago, I picked up a year-old tawny owl with a broken leg off the main road near our home and dropped him off at our nearest vet.

After a few days, I received one of the most bizarre phone calls I’ve ever had, asking “So when are you coming to pick up your owl?” 🧵

International fees currently subsidise domestic fees. So the government is taking from the only pot that subsidises educating domestic students in order to subsidise educating domestic students. Cynically, I suspect the logic behind this is to performatively demonstrate toughness towards foreigners.

It is also partly due to the frozen income tax thresholds, meaning less disposable income, but it happens so gradually and invisibly that most people on regular salaries don’t see it as a cause.

At least to those who don’t follow the detail closely and might be horrified if they knew. (Maybe that last bit is wishful thinking)

It was the same with Chavez, the comic strongman act was a big part of the narrative that made him so popular. I just fear that (as with Chavez) the absurdity of what is happening obscures the real harm that is being done (until it’s too late).

There is some of that, but they are also causing (and enabling) real harm.

Children who receive support are more likely to be out-of-work or education, receiving out-of-work benefits, or receiving health-related benefits at age 22.

There is very little evidence on how systems of support could improve these long-term outcomes.
Chart shows outcomes at age 22 for children aged 15 in 2021, by type of support received. Title states: "Children receiving SEND or disability support are more likely to receive support in adulthood and be out of work or not in education."

Douglas Barrowman and Michelle Mone's company, PPE Medpro, has just been ordered to refund the Government £122m from a PPE contract.

There are two very odd things about PPE Medpro that may affect the odds of the Government ever getting that £122m...

Very excited to announce the release of my new book today, Land Power! Based on 15 years of work, it tells the story of how land shapes societies, from racial hierarchy to inequality, development, gender & the environment.
In hardcover/eBook/audiobook. More in 🧵

The ruling itself is remarkable, but it closes with something I've never seen: a 12-page assessment of Trump himself as an ignorant bully, braggart and threat to free speech and the republic writ-large. storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...

Even if the elections are massively rigged, it is still worth campaigning and voting, if only to make it harder to steal the vote, and to make it obvious when they have.
