Looks like all apps are now doing a round up of usage. This is a nice one from ⁦‪‬⁩ Pocketcasts. Note: I came back to the app mid year and still listen elsewhere )BBC Sounds etc), so this isn’t a full dataset lists.pocketcasts.com/1e52dc6f-847... #pocketcasts #playback2024

There are already many articles for which there is more attention on Bluesky than on other comparable micro-blogging sites, meaning the academic community and the general public have clearly adopted Bluesky as one of its core places to disseminate and discuss new research.

#RPAdventTopTips - Podcasting isn’t just about numbers—it’s about impact! It connects your research to wider audiences, including the public & policymakers, driving real change. Plus, it offers immediate engagement & feedback, letting you respond to current events in real time

Putting aside data issues. This feels like a good use of the Notebook LM technology. It uses generative AI to auditorise (is this a word?) our data. I wonder how much is generic 🤔
But is it a podcast? Is a podcast now a recorded conversation? A media file? Answers on a postcard

Quick thoughts. PRO2 is a real advancement on the last time I used Hindy. Transcription is good, esp the separate speakers feature. It is quite accurate but misses mumbles and so waveform editing still needed. Levelling good and the option to export in LUFS excellent. Faster than Audition.

First time trying to out the transcription tools in Hindenburg. These tools feel like they are going to be more common, if not the default for how we (at least, rough) edit.

I was asked to write what the future of #podcasting was today for someone (there'll be a slew of these, and doubtless my answer will differ each time!)

Here's what I wrote, anyway.

I will always champion student radio for being so pivotal for launching so many careers in audio, and what the organisation does year after year entirely ran by the passion of volunteers is truly remarkable!

A great night for our student station this week. The team picked up 6 awards, split between 4 amazing graduates of our BA and MA courses. Please give them all jobs, apart from the one who has a radio job and had to miss the ceremony!

Listening to the opening episode on the way to work. It’s great this series is getting a reboot and to see is happening as an indie is really cool. Looking forward to the rest of the series.

Tip for radio producers: if you're not making full use of iPhone wide spectrum audio - why not!?
It's the best way to hear background atmosphere if a guest is on location, without the need for fancy kit. (example below)

What awful news. I taught James at Sunderland and have followed his career ever since. He did the first local music shows on our station and it’s something we still do today. A real loss.

There’s definitely been an increase in people coming here, but I’m not leaving the other place just yet. The way it’s being weaponised is alarming and we have to be conscious of that. I’m hoping this place will be as good for connecting & learning as the one used to be
