Democratic Party voters are ready to support social democratic policies in the US over corporate fascism, but it's the Democratic Party standing in the way, aligning with the GOP to become more oligarchic and genocidal. You can't gaslight me and tell me this isn't a major problem we have to address.

Today is World Homeless Day, and after years reporting on this crisis, I'll just say: homelessness is neither inevitable nor intractable. It's the result of choices—political, economic, moral—that can be unmade.

And this: how we treat the unhoused is a bellwether for the violence we will tolerate.

Because mainstream media is owned by concentrated corporate power and it’s a propaganda arm of corporate America. Corporate America pushes the antifa narrative because it prefers fascism to higher taxes and regulation. They invested in Trump.

Imagine being a dying WW2 veteran and the last thing you see on earth is your great-grandson invading Portland for fascism and losing to a frog wizard.

My favorite game series is Smash and I think about this all the time. At this point, I'm so tired of crossovers as a concept in general. They have no sense of novelty or grandiose anymore. What's the appeal of different IP coming together if none of them feel like distinct universes anymore anyway?

Web based platforms are superior to apps, in nearly every way. I honestly think we've fucked it; we've overshot the "best" version of the internet and landed in this web 3.0, internet-of-shit wasteland.

Is there a better indication of how superficial and unhelpful mainstream media has become than that they are cutely musing about whether the domestic terrorist who changed "The Department of Defense" to "The Department of War" will get a Nobel Peace Prize—instead of reporting the fascism/terrorism.

You need to stop trying to save the Dem Party. Let it die. The more you do this, the longer it keeps that zombie party full of Republicans afloat. They hate the left, because they're right wingers. They'd rather self-immolate and give power to Trump than ever let the weakest DemSoc seize the reins.

Caving to centrists failed the Democrats in 2024. The party’s future depends on working with the progressives in their coalition. From Dylan Gyauch-Lewis at The Revolving Door Project:

Centrist Democrats Have Already Forgotten About Kamala Harris
Pivoting to the right didn't work in 2024. It won't work now.

The insane irony of believing so strongly in apocalyptic prophecy that you actively make it happen in real life just so you don't have to stop believing it.

We could have food security and renewable energy, but the cult wants to go to heaven so bad they'd rather destroy everything instead.

Dems keep going out of their way to broadcast how much they hate socialists, which is why it's so infuriating that DemSocs expend all their energy and resources to run in that party.

There can be no social progress until the Dems are gone. They are gatekeepers that must go the way of the Whigs.

when you become a boss you lose the right to chop it up with the employees in the break room. you gave that up in exchange for power. if you want a business AND the camaraderie, start a co-op

They decided that the user-end goal of web search is to answer questions, not explore topics and locate resources. The answers don't even have to be accurate. They just have to validate the user's biases with as little effort on their part as possible so that it "feels good" to use the product.

Bringing this up again because of how maddening the boat bombings are. In a free world, victim nations would be justified in retaliating over this. But they can't, because the US is a rogue terror state with nukes. And most of the world has to endure this never-ending brutality, day in and day out.

The sheer restraint that all members of the global community must exercise on a constant basis in order to endure the cruelty of US foreign policy must be acknowledged. It's not the policing of the US, but the resilience of other nations who suffer at its hands, that keeps the world from collapsing.

No civilian death counts = not a genocide!

No recordkeeping for ICE arrests = legal citizens have nothing to worry about!

No funding disclosure for ballrooms = no burden on taxpayers!

Disinformation thrives without data

No jobs numbers = the economy isn't struggling!

No food insecurity data = people are fed!

No education research = defunding and threatening schools doesn't hurt kids!

No public health studies = our policies aren't making people sick!

All these articles positing Tilly Norwood as a star and wondering when the first A.I. actor will win an Oscar are being brought to you by the same tech-bro companies who are spending billions to normalize this shit. Ignore. Create. Use your soul. It’s all we have—and it’s all we need to create Art.

i feel like people in the USA more than other places in the world do not tend to shop their social or moral values. they usually just need and want a thing, and buy it for a price they find acceptable. same with investing. stated values one thing but they keep chasing alpha.

With everything getting so expensive, I've had to be selective about the entertainment I partake in. I'm at the point now where I'm only buying like 2 games this year (down from 3 games every year before).

Per the moment, what I'll say about Mario Galaxy is that I think 2 is significantly better than 1 in almost all areas, and yes that includes its reduced story, which I don't view as a drawback. I actually do not think Galaxy 1 is a very fun game, at least by Nintendo's usual standards.

I think if nothing else, the Xbox legacy is proving that it *is* possible to sell a console without focusing on software. You might spend 25 years selling at a loss and never being #1, and you'd need Microsoft levels of $ to do it, but it's possible. Not that you'd probably *want* to, but you could.

Why is a washed-up racecar driver's opinion on something completely unrelated to her field of expertise a news story? Why should anyone care? If I tweeted that I don't like pineapple on pizza, the NYT wouldn't write an article about it, because it's irrelevant. Waste of everyone's time.
