David Simon, creator of ‘The Wire’, being interviewed by Ari Shapiro (NPR)
SHAPIRO: OK, so you've spent your career creating television without Al, and I could imagine today you thinking, boy, I wish I had had that tool to solve those thorny problems...
SIMON: What?
SHAPIRO: ...Or saying...
SIMON: You imagine that?
SHAPIRO: ...Boy, if that had existed, it would have screwed me over.
SIMON: I don't think Al can remotely challenge what writers do at a fundamentally creative level.
SHAPIRO: But if you're trying to transition from scene five to scene six, and you're stuck with that transition, you could imagine plugging that portion of the script into an Al and say, give me 10 ideas for how to transition this.
SIMON: I'd rather put a gun in my mouth.

It cannot be made clearer.

If you continue to support the Harry Potter franchise in any way, you are directly funding the removal of trans people's human rights in the UK.

people on here apparently need to learn a lesson most of us learn in elementary school, which is that it’s fucking rude to correct people on zero stakes things and doing so leads rightfully to social ostracism

I remember the first time in college I heard Ian McKellen perform something and was like “this sounds like modern vernacular English, wtf”

I’ve found a lot of people who “can’t understand” Shakespeare just haven’t ever heard it performed well. There’s a world of difference between someone reading words you can tell as a listener/audience member they don’t understand & an actor who clearly Gets It.

I felt bad for the dog, because every time the owners would get it back from mine, I’d just hear them yelling at it and swatting at it at least once, and I just wanted to yell “IT’S NOT THE DOG’S FAULT, JACKASS”

The rescue Flynn came from gave us a few free & reduced-price sessions with a trainer that were a life-saver early on. It was A TIME for the two of us, but having to take that time to build a relationship and learn to communicate remains one of the most rewarding experiences of my life.

Honestly, one of the reasons I’m leaning towards getting education/certified as a dog trainer is that I think so many people are unprepared for how much having and training a dog is WORK.

in NC, can confirm the dog situation is absolutely out of fucking control. not only are leashes now a suggestion, so is basic training and socialization. when Star and I take walks, bored dogs we’ve never seen outside shout at us from their living rooms, and the ones we do see outside are reactive
bbolander.bsky.social
watching over the past year as half of the other dog owners in brooklyn decided that leashes on the sidewalk were more of an occasional suggestion than a law definitely tells me that shit is long gone, combined with how many times i've nearly gotten run down at crosswalks in the past three months

At the last place I lived with him in the country in NC, a neighbor had a dog that would CHARGE and attack to the point of once drawing blood EVERY TIME it saw us. They kept letting it out front off leash. The had a fenced-in back yard. Found out later the same dog had once bit its owner IN THE EYE.
actuallyabelle.bsky.social
My last dog became leash-reactive after being repeatedly attacked by off-leash dogs, which was so frustrating, because he was GREAT with other dogs 99.9% of the time in (safe!) off-leash situations. We put in the work to get better at it, and he did, but it made me SO MAD we ever had to do it at all

I know a lot of owners are just uninformed, and I think expecting every home for every animal to be 100% perfect/ideal isn’t reasonable, but also… there is a basic level of general healthcare that pets need, and when you’ve been educated and choose to ignore it, I just AHHHHH
actuallyabelle.bsky.social
Fun fact: bugs can and do come inside! And it’s INFINITELY less expensive to prevent fleas/ticks/heartworms than to treat them (ESPECIALLY the latter!)
actuallyabelle.bsky.social
Every time I encounter a pet owner at work who insists “my animal is healthy, they don’t need any vaccine other than rabies, they also never go outside, so they don’t need flea/tick/heartworm prevention”, I die a bit inside.

You would not believe how many stories like this have been popping up over the last ~5 years

Not just full games cancelled—entire characters and plot lines removed or changed, leaving less time for making the *rest of the game better*, to try avoiding a small and malicious contingent of voices.
