I think AI could, in principle, be ethical and a force for good. It could be used to assist and empower people in ways that are responsive their needs and wishes. But as it's currently owned, developed, employed, and promoted, well, this is spot on.

Today's announcement on the CRA moving closer to the option of auto-filing is a great excuse to post one of my all-time favourite shorts.

That made it less likely for me to buy the book. Hopefully some of the other chapters reverse that.

That works for one book, how do I suspend all holds though? It used to be a feature but I don’t see it anymore.

In spite of hearing it a million times over a lifetime, I never really let the whole “you can choose your attitude” thing sink in. So often in life, we add suffering into the mix ourselves. Gotta do it, may as well find some joy in it.

I’d love to know the demographics of the not-adults. I’m a child-free, GenX, hetero, white, healthy, middle-class, male - basically as privileged as they come - and definitely feel like part of the not-adult camp. While not without personal struggles, mine are trivial when compared to the majority.

Make space and pay close attention to where your mind goes when it’s not distracted. Make course corrections as required.
Treat your future self as you would your most beloved friends or family.
*Everything* fades away, so enjoy the now.

Until people in the climate movement very publicly stop eating meat and flying, we're not going to seem trustworthy.

I will die on this hill.

Meat is a blind spot for people who care about climate. When I used to have dinner with my colleague Wally Broecker, the climate scientist who coined the term “global warming”, he would always order a steak.
