i'll admit to having a lot of dark fascination with what happens next after the very obvious happens

Massive single-author paper on tiny networks! Great insight into what made HRM work.

I'm working on super tiny neural networks that perform better than the big ones, it's kinda insane.

Same. But otoh the saying: "Wouldn't wish robotics on my worst enemy."
adverb.bsky.social
Yeah people ofc mean "putting clean dishes in my shelves / dirty from sink" but your point is well taken.

The fact that we automate vacuuming and not dishwashing is itself a strong signal that robots don't do dishwashing for a reason other than Capitalism
adverb.bsky.social
Next post mentions that this has been done for mopping, sweeping.

There is a reason that we automated those tasks and not dishwashing, and a hint is that it isn't because of a lack of profit incentive.

i think it's a pretty clear repudiation of modern capitalism and capitalism as a whole that what people actually want robots to do is shit like laundry, taking the trash out, vacuuming, etc, and instead the market has forced robots to be The Future Of Everything. no, please just wash my dishes thx

AI HUCKSTER: "i built you a machine that reads books for you."

ME: "can you build me a machine that unloads the dishwasher for me so *i* can read a book?"

Fascinating paper argues that (roughly) consciousness theories are untestable and unverifiable, and so instead they are selected to fit our moral preferences and preconceptions.

Consciousness science as a marketplace of rationalizations

my commentary on @smfleming.bsky.social and @matthiasmichel.bsky.social's thought-provoking BBS paper, and more generally about the field.

It turns out that once you correct for this error, unemployment is actually rising faster for NON-degree workers - meaning that explanations in terms of AI replacing the college-educated workforce don't make much sense, and this looks a lot more like an across-the-board labor market slowdown.

nuclear ban has bad externalities but not knowing even who the main character was goes so hard
adverb.bsky.social
Also was hearing they delete all user data itself in those cases? -- bad if true lol
adverb.bsky.social
My bluesky understanding isn't deep because I remember a whole discussion on making it so moderation has higher granularity re "this is illegal" vs "def spam" vs everything else like a week before the Link banning. I guess they barely missed timing on that one?
