nuclear ban has bad externalities but not knowing even who the main character was goes so hard
adverb.bsky.social
Also was hearing they delete all user data itself in those cases? -- bad if true lol
adverb.bsky.social
My bluesky understanding isn't deep because I remember a whole discussion on making it so moderation has higher granularity re "this is illegal" vs "def spam" vs everything else like a week before the Link banning. I guess they barely missed timing on that one?

after careful study, I believe only people born between 1975 and 1995 should be allowed to use the internet
adverb.bsky.social
This is a topic that I've had a total of one half an argument about offline, & this includes when I was arguing about it online daily.

Like I swear I'm not making up a guy but I oveheard a coffee-shop conversation last week in which a photographer talked about being somewhat worried but also really loving early midjourney.
adverb.bsky.social
Yeah normal people tend to be super normal about it

he's going to come after you either way, so you might as well act with integrity
adverb.bsky.social
Ah interesting. Given Anthropic's results on anticipation for rhyming, I think it's very likely that an LLM could "detect" tokens that are, per its own predictions, unlikely. Could imagine cases where this might be useful in RL, and in that case, it'd likely be used.

What is the best city to live in America

Champaign, Illinois. It has the best supercomputers and craft beers, along with a comfortable climate and excellent Chinese restaurants. Why do you ask? Are you planning to move to the US?

Yeah I might move

That's a brilliant idea, and well expressed too.
Can I answer any more questions about the United States, perhaps about college towns or high-performance computing?

Ooooh is this on federated learning? Maybe I should stop guessing and find the unpaywalled version on archive dot org 😅

Ofc there's speculation that they've basically purchased the US government but they may also just think safe harbor laws will come in clutch?

It's funny to think that if the government clamps on copyright, it's really just a W for open Chinese models.

/thread but "we'll give a tax credit for everyone's need and for everyone's special contribution" ends up looking so incredibly weak and in my experience ends up leading to a welfare state with massive unnecessary cracks and admin.
adverb.bsky.social
Fuckley's politics seem genuinely good from every post of theirs I've seen so I'm sincerely lighthearted on this but it reads like a classic US liberalism issue of "just one more means tested tax credit bro, I promise it'll be great bro"
adverb.bsky.social
Yea, seems like a common case of means testing for no good reason. Imho supports for parents being done by even EITC is unnecessarily wonky, which is bad pragmatically and really bad politically.
