Thesis: ICE is un-American and the Minneapolis protestors are real Americans.

Antithesis: Ackshually ICE is operating in a long American tradition of racist terror.

Synthesis: Minneapolis is now the epicenter of a clash between two distinct but historically grounded American political traditions.

The existence of this agency, staffed the way it is today, is just completely incompatible with a democratic society.

This family did every single thing they’ve been asked to in order to seek asylum here.

Yet in less than 24 hours, this kid and his Dad were nabbed off our streets and sent to Texas, using tactics that can only be described as pure evil.

The 5-year-old arrested by ICE In Minnesota is detained at Dilley. We reported on conditions there in the below article.

Parents said the food was contaminated with mold and worms & that children were so under so much stress that they were hitting their own faces & wetting themselves.
Analysis by The Marshall Project of ICE data obtained by the Deportation Data Project found that the Trump administration’s revival of family detention has swept thousands of children into ICE custody. At least 3,800 children under 18, including 20 infants, have been booked since Trump took office.
ICE Threw Thousands of Kids in Detention, Many For Longer Than Court-Prescribed Limit
Former immigration staffers argue ICE is choosing to detain families for prolonged periods to speed deportations and compel them to leave.

The crux, setting aside anything about who, what, when: 99% of people talking about phil of mind around LLMs actively have no interest in it.

Like they are wildly incurious about the entire topic
you can argue that you think *maybe* it isn't thinking but if you just flat out state it, it means you haven't thought about what you mean by that very hard. and when it is suggested they should they seem fairly unhappy about it

bluesky response: "omg [company] is AI slop now, I'm never using it ever again!"

reality: the head of sales changed the name of the sales data spreadsheet from "sales stats" to "sales AI"

damn this really is such a thing -- we hate to see it all over the place
For reasons I never read doctorow during his ascent but have they ever actually been insightful or novel? Or were they just a particular type of web 1 booster that is grumpy the world has passed them by?

God, taking issue with:
"At this point if you continue to argue that LLMs write useless code you’re damaging your own credibility." -- which is pretty clearly a statement about absolutist "no usecase" arguments --

Big agree; people point to small-fish or epiphenomena without glancing at civil society generally falling apart
Hot take: a way more worrying trend for the health of society than marriages or birth rates is the collapse in the number of close friendships people report, and that is quite closely related to the former trend.

i like existence of ~the list~ because it speeds up realization of just how much AI usage is already everywhere and it's hopeless and ridiculous to remain some kind of purist in that regard
not going to QT any of this whole slopware watchlist discourse, but pretty depressing that is the sort of behavior people are resorting to instead of just, like, choosing to use or not use software. could have just been a "tools that don't use AI for development" list instead
