I say this ALL THE TIME.

Writers are some of the most important creatives, absolutely crucial to many industries.

They reward that by making sure we're never paid a living wage except by their forbearance, or pure luck.

It's to rob us of our due & our power & use it for themselves instead.
And I've said it before but... A significant portion of creative work starts with words. Books and articles, sure, but also films, shows, song lyrics, the marketing for all of those things, and more. It all starts with words.

So why the fuck are people so dead set against paying writers?
Same problem in publishing and film.

Everyone gets paid long before the writer, and then it's pennies on the dollar, if we're lucky.

People can't create like this.

We shouldn't have to create like this.

There's no product without us, yet we get told it's more important to pay everyone else.

You can like Game of Thrones and Lord of the Rings.

You can like Star Wars and Star Trek.

You should hate what corporations have done to all of them.

@realgdt.bsky.social just bought my Frankenstein tickets. I can't wait to see this next masterpiece.

You had my soul with "Pan's Labyrinth". I will stand in line to see any new thing you will ever make.
Well it's almost a one liner.

Author and filmmaker Justine Bateman on generative AI
...no. God, no, just NO. Leave me alone with your stupid AI crap. Just go away and let me work in peace. (Also, getting echoes of Galaxy Quest - "Look, I have ONE job to do here... computer, can I ask you a stupid question...?"
Microsoft: Let us add another layer of accessibility and security issues to your computer, come on, it'll be fun
This is the future of Windows. Microsoft wants to rewrite Windows to turn computers into AI PCs that you talk to. It's now bringing AI features to all Windows 11 PCs today, in a bid to convince you to talk to your PC and let AI control it. Full details 👇 www.theverge.com/news/799768/...
1 The Omen (saw that way too young thought I'd never sleep again)
2 Jaws (was SO horror you should have seen me near the ocean post that movie)
3 Chucky (dolls can be freaky)
4 is something that I can see before my eyes but whose title i seem to have wiped from my brain...
Quote this with the first four Horror movies that come to your mind that are 10/10s for you. No cheating. Just the first four that pop into your head.

I'll go first:
-Silence of the Lambs
-I Saw the Devil
-Coherence
-Jaws

Farmers grow what they grow because of farm policy.

We don’t need all the soy and corn that we grow, but those are the commodities that receive subsidies and markets.

If we want something better, if we want to heal the Earth and grow food, now is the time to do it.
...getting Windows ready for what??? WTF is going on here?
I swear I am about ready to hulksmash my computer (this posted on my phone) in the middle of a zoom thing it stopped 'recognizing' my camera then the browser froze then I couldn't even get it to properly restart and cold-rebooted...and now it's sitting there telling me it's "getting Windows ready"
One market took 123 days to reject a story I did manage to squeeze through a shifting sub window in time. In that time I was not permitted on pain of death and blacklisting to try and sub anywhere else. I do appreciate the market situation but few of us can afford to wait four months for a rejection
...is this what you want, what you're working for, AI people? Three centuries of no creative human thought at all, just regurgitation? Because you're going to get it, when you annihilate your human creatives by stealing every single blessed thing that they made because it made their souls sing.
No. Two perfectly cute schoolgirl braids. :)
Mine was in two long thick plaits at schoolgoing age so yeah :)
Were you going through your Beatles period in 1972?...
Doesn't ring any immediate bells through that description.
What pretentious diplomats daughter?
Heh. (But pre-fledged baby nerds are fully cute, too, and that's a hill to die on...)

Writers should get paid more.
Tell me your most unhinged literary opinion, as a little treat
All fiction is fantasy, BY DEFINITION. It. Is. ALL. Made. Up. So that's why it sticks in my craw when the genre fantasy is treated as lit'rachur's red headed stepchild and disparage and dismissed. If anything "literary" fantasy is just fantasy written by people with no imagination.
