CLUE is, in many ways, one of our best games about how we’d all like any excuse to wander around other people’s houses checking for weird shit.

That’s so funny! It was omnipresent in such a bizarre way!

My spelling is also a nightmare because I started watching with subtitled the instant dvds became a thing, & so much of what I watched was from the UK that I default to British spellings for a grab bag of words.

I hd a great time! But the undeniable result is that my cultural touchstones are ALLLL over the place, both geographically & age-wise
aneelin.bsky.social
To be clear I DID watch a lot of stuff, but. Let’s say. Not what my peers were mostly watching. My father indiscriminately rented me the (extensive, varied) British comedy section in alphabetical order, & my favourite movie as a baby was Some Like It Hot (remains a banger & a fave)

We didn’t have broadcast television growing up, & only watched things on the weekend, which were procured from the (gone but not forgotten) beloved local video rental store so I couldn’t even begin to scratch the surface. First off the top of my head of a long list is Titanic, though.

Inspired by a post I just saw in which someone admitted they hadn’t seen a single episode of Friends nor the film Love Actually… what cultural hole do you have that’s a bit weird for your generation?

I’ll go first: I haven’t seen Dirty Dancing.

Okay yes several of my sentences are constructed incoherently. This is why Dylan is the writer!!!

Dylan’s stories are & have been a bright spot in uhhhh some Bad few years huh!!!! And I think they will be for you, too. They sure beat doomscrolling before bed by a COUNTRY MILE.

At the risk of sounding flippant about Current Times (which I assure you I do not “lol”) I’m here to say! After a long day doing your little best to stem the rising tide if fascism, what better to try & soothe your soul to regroup tomorrow than a lovely book that believes in the best of us.

It's honestly really easy to call your elected representatives! I know it's scary, I have ADHD & an anxiety disorder. But I promise you can do this.

Tell them trans health care is not a negotiation point, it is about freedom and bodily autonomy and medical privacy. Then give your name and address.

this whole piece is deeply worth reading and sharing, especially with the centrist dems and liberals in your life, but this penultimate graf really sums it up. you just can't play these kinds of games with people's lives.
Screenshot of a paragraph pulled from the linked article: "The implication here seems to be that Democrats can turn a big dial that says “transphobia” on it to some ideal level—that there’s a sweet spot of anti-trans discrimination that everyone can be content with. (Everyone, presumably, except trans people themselves.) But the events of the past year should have put that idea to rest. Democrats and centrists have been distancing themselves from trans people—indeed, top Democratic figures like Chuck Schumer will barely say the word “trans”—and the only forces that have benefited are the forces of anti-trans fascism. You can’t just play these kinds of games with people’s lives."

Absolutely 100% this. If they give up citizenship (which is what they have to do in the US to stop paying taxes) we also win.

I half think that even if a billionaire tax leads ultra-wealthy people to flee the country, it's probably still good on net. leaves them less able to buy the political system

Periodic remember that a lot of language learning apps are full of AI slop these days, BUT! if you have a library card many libraries offer Mango Languages free. There is a placement test, downloadable lessons, hands free lessons (like having a language podcast), stuff that usually costs a lot!

Cooper does this, except he believes so truly in his heart that ANYONE in his field of vision is a new best friend, not merely waiting to happen, but fully already established.

I did some pro bono work for the NIJC back in my Big Law days. I can confirm that they're good people who are desperately needed right now
