The fact that the "Beg Button" exists in so many cities is messed up.

For the privilege of crossing the street, pedestrians are required to press a button, wait, and then scurry across while cars + trucks give them a few seconds of grace.

I pretty much lived this in Durham uni in the UK. It's actually hard to believe there were paper copies of all those journals in the library and we had to pay 10p per page to photocopy. The one lone admissions clerk genuinely went around saying her job would be better if it wasn't for the students.

Another reminder that a 13-year study found that protected bike-lanes led to a drastic decline in fatalities for all road users.

ALL ROAD USERS.

And painted bike-lanes? No safety improvement at all.

For sharrows, it’s actually safer to NOT have them.

Yesterday I said a society *requiring* you to own a car makes you less free than a society with options for biking, walking, & transit.
Lots of people have shouted at me that this could never work in rural areas, and that they have to drive long distances for everything.
