Hi! I'm Anna. I am a disabled and queer author of similarly queer and disabled YA and adult SFF. Will post a short synopsis of each, followed by representation you can expect and links where you can find that work. I will not cover every platform, but my books are available widely. Ready? Long 🧵:

What’s more restorative than sleep? Whatever it is, I need it.

If you have to ask, it usually isn’t.

In an authorly sense, it’s “write up a synopsis”

Four word horror story for my profession:

In honor of October, what’s a 4-word horror story only someone in your profession would get?

“Add a Battle Pass”

I don’t know if it was overplayed or what, but that song makes me irrationally angry.

I can do this all day. I got a list of food aversions, a tendency to hate popular movies, and a bone to pick with just about every country singer, American Idol winner, and musician working between 1998 and like…2010.
annabookwriter.bsky.social
Of course, there’s also

Caviar
Any Harry Potter
My Humps
annabookwriter.bsky.social
There are lots of alternate answers to these!

Baloney
Pay It Forward
The Christmas Shoes

but also

Pumpkin pie
Nightmare Before Christmas
Try That in a Small Town

5 events that defined your childhood?

1. 9/11 and the “war on terror”.
2. Y2K.
3. Columbine.
4. Moving from my inclusive, beautiful hometown to a conservative Christian suburb because that’s what we were “supposed” to do
5. Scholastic book fairs.

seems like a non-insignificant percentage of rage against the machine's fanbase are young republican men driving SUVs bopping their head to anti-oil, pro-immigrant songs thinking the lyrics are about how they wish their suburban parents would get off their back
Tom Morello tweets: "Fascinating that all those “don’t tread on me” posers and their AR-15’s are nowhere to be seen and government tyranny is instead being opposed by a guy in an inflatable frog suit."

Someone named Manny replies: "@grok
why do some people say Tom Morello and band mates are RAGE FOR THE MACHINE and not against ?"

Honestly, her family failed her. She grew into a self-centered person, but they set that stage, made sure I knew my place was behind it, and refused to give her any real support when things first started going wrong, because it couldn’t POSSIBLY have been a her problem.

It’s pretty sad.

Anyway, they live in Missouri now.

I wish I could say I am not bitter and petty, but I am. If I got a good grade, Sam got one point better. If I got a scholarship, she got a free ride.

She was going to be a fashion designer and then she blew off all her classes.

Brought to you by the quarterly email my mother gets from her mother. The story told there is VERY different from the one on Facebook.

Her mother mocked me when I was 15 and said I wanted to be a writer. “How can you write? Don’t you have to, you know, live? And travel?”

She had so many opportunities, so much help, every systemic advantage, and she hit the wall.

I came from a family where all that got passed down was debt, mental illness, and music. There was a lot wrong with how I was raised, but I am glad I was not presumed perfect.

She is running up against what happens when you can’t afford to live where the arts scene is lively, what happens when as a woman-presenting person you get older, when you’re expected to teach instead of perform yourself.

Both her brothers crashed out, too. One is doing better now.

My childhood was not healthy by any means, but the one thing my parents did really well was allowing me to try and fail at things. My friend was expected to succeed and effortlessly. And she seemed to!

Said friend is now an alcoholic with multiple DUIs. I do not think they are unrelated.

My childhood best friend and I were pitted against one another. Constantly compared, constantly ridiculed. Her mother was a drama teacher and choreographer at a fancy private school, and my friend danced ballet and tap, learned several instruments, was constantly performing.

Ugh, may it leave you alone soon.

Just put together the last piece of furniture despite us both feeling terrible and every time there’s a shelf to be built
An old meme. At the top, a screenshot of the Google top searches for “help i acc”. The first is “help I accidentally build a shelf”. Underneath, a wikihow type illustration of a nondescript person standing before a shelf. They say “oh crap”.

—Britney Spears, and that doesn’t make her unserious in her musical exploits.

(My friend was a classical pianist prodigy who was giving Debussy recitals before 10 who knew every harmony to Hit Me Baby One More Time.)

Maybe we just give kids and adults room to love what they love.

There’s a corollary here, too, though: art that gets derided as “low brow” should be worthy of respect. Maybe that kid who wants to read something more “relevant” to their life, and that is not unworthy. For every weird little kid growing up on NIN and Handel (me), there’s another obsessed with—
