I was raised in a house where, if someone got home late, you were happy to see them anyway.

Long day, short day, they were home, and that was where they wanted to be, and all else was forgotten.

It was such a shock that that wasn’t real life, I don’t think I have ever gotten over it.

You know, for fifteen years or so, a “crusty” roll or bread has been hard-crusty (rock-hard then shatters) or chewy-crusty (ciabbatta-y). But what happened to soft-crusty? Like a distinct, multi-layered, golden-brown exterior that resists softly but ultimately yields to the tooth?
