This Liberal government cannot be trusted to establish a “combatting hate act” as they’re currently complicit in arming the active genocide of Palestinians. It is a farce to think this act is not being established now as an authoritarian attack on ppls right to assemble and protest in public places.

Until a few years ago, it was a criminal offence in Canada to scare the Queen of England

The Carney government's new hate crime proposals have a similar aim—to protect the ruling classes from discomfort and political dissent

New hate crime law is a cover for suppressing Palestine protests ⋆ The Breach
The proposed 'Combatting Hate Act' is built on the idea that protests inspire hateful violence, and gives police the tools to crack down on expression

It is great to see more safe cycling infrastructure going in around #NewWest. Here’s a little safety added to an intersection along a greenway and a safe route to an elementary school a block away!

The truth about Israel as a euro-colonial entity is that they chose genocide and urbicide because they couldn’t conceive of living equally with Indigenous Palestinians that welcomed them as refugees.

So they dropped 9x more fire power on civilians than the American nuclear bomb dropped on Hiroshima
Israel’s ecocide in Gaza sends this message: even if we stopped dropping bombs, you couldn’t live here | George Monbiot
Consider the annihilation of agricultural land alongside the genocide – and grasp the chilling totality of this attempt to eliminate all life, says Guardian columnist George Monbiot

I’m sharing a Palestinian account every day and today is Azza. Before this Azza worked in a kindergarten and her husband owned a small coffee shop. They lost their home in the first two weeks of the war. They are trying to survive with their children Nisreen, 16, Layan, 14 and Ibrahim, 11.

I did this, took like 30 min.
Points I kept hammering: domestic cloud, regulations around copyright and likeness rights, focusing on machine learning with concrete, real world uses (creating new drugs, etc), the damage done by slop, the need to listen to AI experts who are realists, not boosters.

I think we really should stop using antifa and just fully say anti-fascist and get them saying they are against anti fascism. Using antifa is giving them some distance and I genuinely think some of their base don’t even know that’s what it stands for.

I often urge law students to be precise when and where they use passive language, and to notice the work it does when used by others (judges, politicians, reporters, and anyone describing actions being done without actors). This is a great, but awful, example.

Classic CBC. "Bill could lead to law enforcement acting more freely in Canada"

How does a US bill lead to this, without Canada actively allowing this? Can we use the active voice? Can we actually use words the way that journalists are supposedly able to?

“Hidalgo spearheaded legislation that constrains her eventual successor from reversing her policies & long-term goals, such as the creation of 55 acres of new green areas by 2040, and requiring at least 65% of any site bigger than 150sq.m remains soil or plants, with no building or paving allowed.”

Dropped off Sambusas a few days ago for @bcgeu.bsky.social strikers. Clearly the BC gov exploits workers while in solidarity with a genocide. As Israeli wine stays on shelves while Russian vodka was pulled. This isn't neutrality; it's complicity.“Elbows up" should be for a consistent moral standard.
Image of BCGEU strikers, holding signs and some are resting while others are walking. You can say the sidewalk up ahead you have about 10 people striking and the street is lined with trees.

I wish this for every U.S. city, too. (and yes, I still see a leadership path forward on this). Vote for local leaders who are known themselves to ride a bike or take transit for local trips. That’s your shortcut cue for a policy maker who knows their community. #ClimateInfluence

This video is a chilling reminder of what one aspect of street-violence looks like, particularly with a deadly weapon.

People and public spaces must be protected from this kind of deliberate lethal entitlement from drivers that have a disregard for pedestrian well-being and human life. #visionzero
