Now that we have pinned posts:

I'm a self-taught biologist in #NYC studying the microbial tree of life with lots of long-read sequencing focus.

Most of my study is self-funded from warehouse and other odd jobs - I'm hoping to document paths to a working class, independent researcher for others.

Oh I see, I'm still trying to wrap my head around all the things made possible with Logan. Very excited to see where all this leads. Thank you for the heads up!

Interesting thread - I wonder what the upcoming Pasteur browser might be like... Also, didn't realize there were European bacterial and environmental sequence browsers of similar intent like this one, unless we're talking about ena/ebi type portals

Oh I was wondering why everyone's talking about the genocidal Genovese. Haven't had a holiday in almost a decade, so these things all sort of meld together.

Oh that's another great reference. Thank you for sharing!

Looking at vending machines in #nyu dorm, holy cow. Almost $4 for a 16oz soda, same for a tiny bag of sour jelly. These things are like 3.90 a six pack even when buying retail.

These schools charge way too much to be ripping off students like this.

Fascinating preprint. I've always been curious about genome stability of phages.

turns out that beadle&tatum ('one gene–one enzyme) only scratched the surface, and you have opened a true pirates' treasure chest. And it's intriguing to see that there are other widely used nucleotide-binding domains besides the rossman fold 👏👏👏

ParB NTPase fold might:
*suggest hidden layer of biological regulation
*maybe a fold as fundamental as P-loop ATPases or Rossmann folds (well, this has to be seen!)
*be a treasure trove of uncharacterized proteins waiting to be studied.

We probably have only scratched the surface.

These fellas act like human beings are vending machines. And there's a 'correct answer' to living a life.

I wonder if some dinosaurs/raptors of old behaved in a similar manner. That's a pretty terrifying image.

Let's learn about the Seriemas, family Cariamidae.

This red-legged Seriema named Kevin is demonstrating how he prevents his food from wriggling as he swallows it, as captured by @witmerlab.bsky.social during a visit to the Columbus Zoo in 2019.

Native to South America, they have famous cousins...

These CEOs might have far more time on their hands than they like to suggest to others. One piece is a 27 yr long franchise.

Also - we live in a world with Thomas Mann novels. These are some really... Depressingly juvenile minds trying to run our society.

the plot thickens 👇 as we all suspected and feared(?), organellogenesis is not straightforward, but rather, well,... a thicket ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Figure 7. Graphical representation of the key events that lead to plastid organellogenesis. Novel features identified in Sinophysis are highlighted below the well-studied features.

Lol the Nobels can't even acknowledge women's contribution to discovery. But sure let's acknowledge The Machines.
Headline from an article in Nature this week that states "Prizes must recognize machine contributions to discovery. The future of science will be written by humans and machines together. Awards should reflect that reality."

The LLMs don't care about you Mr. Wang. They can't, and will never.

This looks fun - #micropython based #unix-like system for #microcontrollers.

Could be a fun candidate for a minimal/off-grid compute. I'm often thinking about how much bio analysis I might pull off with a stripped down SBC type devices.

I guess this is more about the human condition of people being confident wrong that long preceded help from a computer.

Julia 1.12 is out at last! With the --trim feature everyone's been talking about for a while now. Looking forward to trying it out. I think you just need to watch out for any dynamic dispatches in the code.
