Finished @joeabercrombie.com's The Devils the other day. It's a fast read, in spite of its bulk, as well as deeply entertaining and wonderfully cynical.
It made me think of an inventive alt-history-with-monsters-and magic combo of The Magnificent Seven, The Dirty Dozen and Conan the Destroyer.

They should have a section of the Louvre that people can steal from for fun. They could make a little competition reality show out of it, like Top Chef for heists. This year's crown jewels furnished by San Pellegrino.

Apparently Welsh speakers walk quicker than English speakers! (Or maybe the Welsh shops are just two minutes closer than the English ones...!).

When Hollywood Does Canada: Argo
A great film but one of the worst examples of rewriting history.
The Canadian Caper led to the rescue of several American diplomats from Iran, but Argo rewrote history to make the CIA the heroes, and Canadians as side characters at best.

my woke take is that entirely too many people feel entitled to the benefits of a social contract while not feeling bound by the responsibilities of said contract
👏👏👏
For. The. Win.
Used too much chlorine today.
Bare-bones pool party budget.
B5 also gave us the godlike races the Shadows & the Vorlons who put crucial weight on the questions "What do you want?" and "Who are you?" respectively.

Interestingly (and disgustingly), John Scalzi's The Android's Dream starts w/ diplomatic talks w/ scent-communicative aliens derailed by farts.
How about Neal Stephenson's Snow Crash, featuring an ancient memetic virus repurposed for the computer age to control people's minds?

Or the Technomages of Babylon 5 who can make someone fall in love by speaking 14 words - but one in the Crusade sequel series says "hello" is enough.
Thanks for the recommendations - I took a quick listen over on iTunes and will be buying a bunch of songs.
