It will weaken it, but "effectively disband" is a massive overstatement. Removing a priest's formal authority over lay people doesn't matter as much when those lay people are already brainwashed.

This was my experience arguing with Ezra 20 years ago. He wrote about Hurricane Katrina, but was way more interested in playing geo-political gamemaster than addressing the concrete problems facing New Orleans. Once it gets real, he's out.
