“All of this is a choice.”
💯💯✌️

We are better than this own-goal dystopia, which disgracefully services POTUS’s and Stephen Miller’s racist, vengeful fever dreams and provides NOTHING kind, moral, or society-building. 🇺🇸

Every flashbang could instead be a meal for a poor kid. Every hotel room for a National Guardsman deployed to fire at our neighbors could house a homeless vet. Every "less-than-lethal" bullet pulled from a journalist's eye could be already needed healthcare for anyone else. All of this is a choice.

The shameless GOP lying about the No Kings gatherings scheduled for next Saturday reveals how deeply hostile much of the Republican Party is to “the right of the people peaceably to assemble.” I look forward to our local No Kings event, and urge my fellow Americans to attend in their communities.

a key thing about vought — and all of these guys — is that they have a totally top down and hierarchical vision of the world. they believe that the cultural changes they hate can be turned off by destroying the federal government because they can’t imagine that they emerged bottom-up in society
thomaszimmer.bsky.social
What he’s railing against is a profound shift in culture, status… He’s obsessed with the idea that America is controlled by a leftist “ruling elite” - but “elite” isn’t defined socio-economically or by political power, it means something like: Getting to define “real America” and who gets to belong.

Right — “Bloody Sunday” in 1965 in Selma, but ALSO ABC interrupting ‘Judgment at Nuremberg’ to show Bloody Sunday to the nation
volts.wtf
Turns out protest alone was never what changed things, it was protest *plus media coverage of protests*, which prompted officials to respond to protests, which increased public awareness of protests, etc.

If the protest happens & corporate media simply ignores it ... it's inert.
ineptitudinous.bsky.social
Six out of eight of the largest mass-movement protests in US history have happened since 2017. You wouldn't know this from most media reporting, and you sure af wouldn't know this from the way either major party has reacted.

Our country is a disgrace. 4th-grade-level mathematical logic is beyond the grasp of our POTUS ? Wake up GOP Congress.

Trump: "Drug prices are going to be going down 100%, 400%, 600%, 1,000% in some cases."

I meant to say “Federal/State/Local”.
brianfcampbell2.bsky.social
Yeah, I learned something today. 👍. It’s odd that I never heard RIF until around 2005 and only in Silicon Valley. I have never worked in State/Local gov though.

And let’s not forget the El Salvador CECOT gambit and the inhumane detention of 300 South Koreans from the Hyundai plant in Georgia. Swell and peaceful guy.

Outrageous? Really ?

We are now governed by ** the worst *** human beings. No self-awareness. No duty to the Constitution, human decency, or broader society. Just abominable in all aspects.

Mike Johnson: "This hate America rally that they have coming up for October 18? The antifa crowd, the pro-Hamas crowd, and the Marxists, they're all gonna gather on the Mall. It is an outrageous gathering for outrageous purposes ... all this has gotta come to an end."
brianfcampbell2.bsky.social
As far as your point # 1, what would be the underlying reason there to wait until October ? Is it just “cleaner” from a paperwork perspective because that’s when the fiscal year starts? Curious.

And as I mentioned in another thread, he probably picked up the RIF term from Musk and thinks he’s cool now.

Three key points:
1) The admin has been planning mass firings to begin in October since February
2) The work necessary to carry out mass firings is illegal during a shutdown, violating the Antideficiency Act, which carries a criminal penalty
3) This harms America, ridding us of talent and expertise
Russ Vought v @russvought
The RIFs have begun.

FYI: The RIF term has been widely used in the tech sector (when layoffs occur) for probably 20 years. It wouldn’t surprise me if Musk or his DOGE henchmen got Vought excited about that moniker. Vought probably thinks he’s cool now ?

Finally, Pritzker says more Dems must sound the alarm, though he notes some exceptions (like Chris Murphy).

"I am surprised that more leaders have not stood up," he says.

He urges people to join No Kings protests to let the country know something's wrong. 5/5

It exposes the obvious racism of Trump 2.0, especially Noem’s “on camera” comments to Benny Johnson that are easily accessible. This is not some obscure entertainer — 48 North American shows in 2024; 44 of those 48 shows in the continental USA. Wiki reference:

Any heroes in the congressional GOP ready to save the USA yet ? There is no ambiguity anymore regarding Trump’s (and Bondi’s, Miller’s,Vance’s, Noem’s, Hegseth’s) intentions. This White House violates the Constitution and legal norms weekly.

Incredible.

Jack Posobiec references the earliest version of antifa -- the anti-fascists in the Weimar Republic who were opposed to the Nazi Party -- as the bad guys.
brianfcampbell2.bsky.social
Reminder: We are governed by ***the worst*** people. This is happening specifically because of Trump‘s decade-long lies and overall “permission structure” for hate and disinformation. Jack Posobiec, who is referenced in the Times article, was at the WH antifa round table yesterday. My head spins.

But a lot more annoying IMO. It also “hits” a lot differently (at least for me) when you have one of the most prestigious legal jobs in the entire country. Roy Cohn was mostly New York “deals” and navigating its criminal underbelly.

We aren't on the verge of an authoritarian takeover. We are in the middle of it.

But I worry people don't see the whole scheme. They just pay attention to each new daily outrage. So I went to the Senate floor to explain Trump's plan.

Here's a 🧵of the speech. It's important.

Yep. Unfortunately, telling powerful oligarchs what they want to hear remains a profitable career across journalism, politics, economics, higher education. It seemed to be more of a “niche” until we had billionaires with multi hundreds of billions of net worth.

No shit I'm furious. I spent eleven years learning to write well about complex topics in ethical ways, often for criminally low rates, because I believe that work's important. It's deeply insulting to see a total dipshit get fabulously wealthy for telling the rich what they want to hear!
