All I want in life is to persuade everyone, when encountering politics & culture, to ask, "why are we talking about this?" I mean that very literally: anything you encounter on your screens reflects a choice. Someone covered that, talked about that, rather than the many other things out there. Why?

Can you put into words what that purpose is? You and the frog have really become icons of this protest.

There’s been a nice overall whimsy that has shown up. The frog is amazing. We had a bunch of other inflatable people here last night, too. I saw people playing Twister the other day.

What they rely on is fear. So by coming out in an absurdist manner, it speaks to them, to some extent, that we’re actually not that afraid.

It also dismantles their narrative a little bit. When they try to describe this situation as “war-torn,” it becomes much harder to take them seriously when they have to post a video saying [U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security] Kristi Noem is up on the balcony staring over the Antifa Army and it’s, like, eight journalists and five protesters and one of them is in a chicken suit.

Chase was saying they were proud of me for trying something different with this current writing project (not using an ATU classification as the base of the story) and I then had to inform him that [plot themes] also map to Six Go through the Whole World (ATU type 513 A).

Our primate demonstrates some things they learned to the other primates. Tool-making, fishing, fire-starting. The primates sit around a small fire peacefully.

Our primate walks into their cave, places worm-in-a-rock god on a bed of leaves and then lies down in their own. They sleep peacefully.
