a quote i wrote in black fountain pen ink on a page of a notebook in a dark blue leather passport sized Traveler's Notebook cover. it reads: "Agnes DeMille, on Martha Graham: The greatest thing she ever said to me was in 1943 after the opening of OKLAHOMA! when I suddenly had unexpected, flamboyant success for a work i thought was only fairly good, after years of neglect for work I thought was fine.I was bewildered and worried that my entire scale of values was untrustworthy.I talked to Martha...in a Schrafft's restaurant, over a soda. Ari is stunned. The sun starts rising. Voice from off-panel: Ari? The unicorn runs off. Ari: huh? Wuh? The voice is revealed to be Zerra, coming from the campground. Zerra: oh, there you are! She walks over. Zerra: Sky took a liking to you, did he? Ari: Dunno what you're talking about. I didn't have anywhere else to sleep. Zerra: sure. Well, the hunt is this morning. You should come with. She sits beside him. Ari: I’m not good at stuff like that. Zerra: You'd be surprised. People from the Other World can make things happen here. Ari: That's because he's writing it. Zerra: You even sound like him sometimes. Ari: what was it like? The war? Zerra: Hard-won. But as soon as he got here, Sky knew he was going to rule the Bladelands one day. I thought... I don't know what I thought. We wanted to bring unity. Lasting peace. And one by one, the great houses started toppling over. It's like you said; like an author's pen was behind it. Ari: I think it was. Ari bursts into skys tent. Sky is putting his shoes on. Sky: Ah, welcome back. I was worried, I had to send Zerra after you. They’re spells. I told you, people like us can make things happen here. This is how I do it. He leans over to pick the book up. Sky: I write things down, then they happen. Well, heh, most of the time. Some people are stubborn, and— Ari swats the book out of his hand. Ari: No, don't touch it! Sky: The book isn't magic, genius. It's the writing that's magic.
