Contemplating how the most influential award show for Evil Hat was the Indie RPG Awards held in the early 00s, before Evil Hat existed as a company. @rdonoghue.bsky.social and I won one for an earlier incarnation of Fate, “best free game”. It was a narrower population that knew about it, but enough…

It's time for an update to the DD4 / PDAP Production Diary,
looking at pencil drawings for Chapter Six, with eyes that haunt me (with their being hard to get right), difficult hand poses, and problems with perspective.

Mostly it all comes out pretty evenly but if you run low on honey, yeah, I'd top it up. :)

Ah, yeah, I got the rights back and am re-releasing them! :)

Nope, but it's an excellent tonic if you are :)

In my non-professional opinion, this is exactly the column to read on the topic of protest RSVPs.

I guest authored one of my favorite newsletters this week. Check out my article on RSVPing for protests in FWIW. open.substack.com/pub/fwiwnews...

it's VERY TASTY and truly excellent for colds, but also chock full of vitamin c so theoretically ALSO good for not GETTING colds :D

Like in the 3rd picture of the 3 across, you may observe that her jaw has been made less wide, and her ear moved in, which...well, it's closer to what it was supposed to be, anyway.

One more section to go. #CatieDraws

This finishes the 'human heads' part of the 100 hours course. It was another 'block it in instead of loomis-heading it,' and I did better this time, I think. #CatieDraws

I tried to take pictures of the in-progress sketch, from the very beginning to the end, so you could kind of see the process.
three very light pencil sketches of a woman's head in various stages of completion. A more or less finished sketch of a woman's head. Finished by my standards, anyway.

This is part of why I'm posting even the bad stuff I've done for #CatieDraws. I've had several people say over the past year that seeing somebody* doing things badly helps them get over their own reluctance/self-recrimination about not doing things perfectly from the start.

Good wisdom here.

When learning something new, you need the "beginner's mind": your ego is out of the way because how would you know how to do this new thing?

It's important to keep the beginner's mind even as you gain experience. Important to give yourself permission to screw up.

Found this on the AO3 subreddit, and I'm about to let it change my whole life (or at least work really hard to internalize it wrt my writing).

I'm very glad to hear your nephew is doing well. I hope he has a long and wonderful life. <3

...into a mug and pour hot water over it. If you're actually sick, a shot of honey whiskey or mead goes nicely. :)

I finally got around to making my lemon tisane:. Basically you cut lemons as thin as you can, stuff them in a jar layered with as much ginger as your heart tells you is right, then pour honey over it all until it's covered. Put it in the fridge and when you want a tisane, put a generous blop...
A jar of nicely layered lemons and ginger A jar of lemons and ginger, from the top. A jar of lemons and ginger with honey seeping down them A jar of honey-covered lemons and ginger. I admit I stabbed the lemons with a knife to help the honey work its way down because I am not a patient soul.

ok, well, somewhat despite myself I've gotten up to just under 1700, which is just above goal and I'm going to call it a win for the day.

The entire rest of the month is made of #fomo for me, as my last-minute thoughts of going to @octocon.bsky.social were scuppered, my longer-term hopes of going to WFC in Brighton were scuppered, and I couldn't wing going to a writing retreat with a friend in between those things. Woe.

FRIDAY (1982)
Acrylic - 30” x 20”

Robert Heinlein does create memorable characters!

Not even halfway through this book, I had a nearly photographic image of Friday in my mind. By the time I finished, I felt confident about the substance and approach my painting would have. 1/4
A woman in a blue denim jumpsuit stands in front of a view of space as seen through a gold trimmed porthole. The central zipper of her outfit is drawn down to her waist exposing bare skin. Her short cropped, sandy blonde hair has a slight curl. Her eyes reflect vibrant blue set in a gaze directly forward. The silhouette of a planet can be seen in the round viewport behind her. A star emerges from behind the planet and flares above her right shoulder. A moon with bright crescent highlight hangs over her left shoulder.

I apparently don't particularly want to write today. My necessary goal is 1576 but 1k would get me to 20k on the book and I might call that enough. I do have other admin I've been forgetting to do. :p

I am SO HAPPY with it! It's my new favorite! They're all always my new favorite when they arrive but this might be my FAVORITE favorite so far! Except maybe the first one, which I really love. :D
