The woman who owned it and was always there was so wonderful. The store was the best kind of mess—books everywhere and she always knew where everything was, and if she didn’t then you got the joy of browsing through the various piles :)

It was the best job, and I still miss it every day—even back then we were always in danger of going out of business, but 24 years after I left it’s still going, still in the same building, and still the best video store on earth :)

When I was in college, the Seven Gables was one of my favorite places on earth, and definitely my favorite theater—right down the street from Scarecrow (where I worked) and Cinema Books. As much as I learned in college, I learned just as much from those three places, and now two of them are gone 😢
